What amuses me is that TWC released smooth jazz CDs and mentioned that "people look forward to new music selections every month." I don't understand how that suddenly changed in just 4 years, and I know for a fact that it has not! Also, TWC used to LISTEN to viewers (i.e. what happened on 5/7/07). I see more complains about the current selection today than five years ago, yet they do not listen. Look, they even said it in the email Scott Windham on the other topic... "we are looking for new selections that WE want to play. Um, it's not about what you think Scott, it's about us. <_<

There are also music artists such as Chris Geith, Patrick Yandall, and Vincent Ingala who do not appreciate the new selection. I think they should get a little more support since the market is terribly slow now. A few smooth jazz songs like in 2009 will NOT hurt ratings. I even pointed this out to the whole press team, and they seem like they do not even want to think about that. Well, screw you too then. <_<

Well there's one difference between 5 years ago and now and that's management from top to bottom. Sure back then they may have taken those things into consideration, but now it feels like, "Hey were all about nothing but changes with everything on our network so you're either with us or not."

I made a topic last month in TWC's feedback thread about it. Feel free to vote on it if you wish.

That song also played in January of 2009, but I did remember Tortilla Flat from May of 2001, too. I was glued to TWC's LF music before 9/11 ( Stopped watching it after 9/11 through late 2004) and remember it as if it played yesterday. Good memories.

I didn't mention this earlier, but do they seriously have a rating system for music, like Nielsen Rating type of ratings? If so who does that? Do they sit there going through charts and graphs and say, "Uh oh, the smooth jazz selection is slipping by a quarter percent this month, it's time to put it on hiatis and bring in a midquarter replacement of Linkin Park, Beyonce, and Adele."

I don't understand why this is such a huge deal. You guys act like you're the only ones that watch the channel. I'm bored with the put me to sleep music all the time. The fact is you apparently think you're the only ones that matter and reality is the AVERAGE viewer listens to today's music. So instead of falling asleep while they watch their local forecast, they'd rather listen to the stuff they hear on the radio. Don't bother jumping down my throat. :censored:

I halfway agree with you. I don't really care about the music changing the way it has, it hasn't stopped me from looking at the LF whenever I want to, in fact I have liked some of the songs I've heard (vocal/non vocal) but it could have been a compromise of all types of genres of music on the playlist. I don't think they really had to shunt out smooth jazz and new age completely, they could have chosen to keep a handful of them mixed in with the other music they're playing now.

Does the average viewer actually watch Coast Guard Alaska?

The average viewer probably doesn't care much about the music change, but if that were the case, then the need to remove jazz doesn't make sense unless it's clearly TWC's idea to do it without viewer input. If the music change was because jazz ratings were falling, then that wouldn't make much sense because the average viewer watches for weather, not music.

Also, you'd think that TWC would maybe check out what some of their viewers are saying about anything TWC. Is this the only major forum pertaining to TWC? If so, then I'm surprised that they're not even curious to see what people think about their current decisions. This is a good source of feedback. I don't know what their methods are.

For now, I'm generally pleased with the LF. I'm not sure how much longer these full screen local forecasts will be around, but at least that's been a constant for the past 20 or so years

That's a misconception  Viewers are complaining on TWC's Facebook page about the music change every few posts.

I would love to see that forum because I can't find it. I didn't see many music complaints but I did see this post by David Fowler:

"When is the weather channel going to get back to covering weather instead of all these programs that should be on other channels? If you want to do all these things, then start a channel for them to be seen."

His opinion sums up ours pretty well. We are not the only ones who feel this way, and I honestly think that every member here also feels that TWC's new changes are tough to handle. Sadly, if TWC is not willing to listen, there there isn't much we can do. :pinch:

They did return to jazz after 2009, though. They might at least take vocals out if people complain. They honestly don't sound good with narration on local forecasts at all.

More new songs have aired, but they're all vocal.
