That sounds like an extremely interesting channel to have!  And I'm under the impression that the red box has to be manually triggered.

I'm scared that this is yet another step in the "experimentation" of replacing the local forecast with the L-bar on a more permanent basis.  More time for commercials and longform that way.

Oh gosh, I certainly hope not. In a video about LOT8s and its transition to HD created a few years ago on TWC MediaKit, Cantore stated that the LOT8s was the #1 reason why people tune to The Weather Channel. Sure the squeezeback gives some local info but not all of it. If the average viewer no longer cares about getting a local forecast, then TWC really shouldn't even exist anymore.

Plus, the STAR team just came out with a sparkling, new IS2. I don't think this will happen. ;)

Have you read the article on Wikipedia about channel drift?

I remember back in the day when each cable channel had its own purpose.  They're all becoming the same, and, unfortunately, that "same" means sinking to the lowest common denominator to acquire the widest possible audience.

I have my own Local on the Eights at the house with my weather station... it just doesn't have radar (but I sure wish it did  :cry3: )... I keep TWC on mainly for background sound now - when I'm not watching other news.

Oh, hasn't anyone thought of the idea that 24hr live weather was cut for longform *cough*bs*cough* because NBC didn't want to pay the OCM's to be on 24hr/day? I bet they're pissed now if that is the case...

For those complaining about the LF not airing, why dont you guys even realize that this is a catastrophic situation going on in an area that hasnt seen conditions like this since 2003? At least give credit for TWC in preempting their long form all week and give them credit for doing their best on covering Irene.. its not the end of the world that you cannot get your local forecast on TV for petes sake...

Longform: "WAA, WHY AREN'T THEY ON THE AIR???"

Actually covering the situation: "WAA, WHY AREN'T THEY SHOWING THE LF???"

So, you guys are :cry3: either way.

  Just like I said in the general TWC discussion thread, viewers must not be complaining much or they would have gone back to showing the traditional local forecast by now.

Would anyone happen to know the Ryan Farish song that was used in the February 2009 playlist? Also, is there a list of playlists somewhere? Unfortunately, Victor/Molly's channel was suspended, and that's where I've been hearing LF music for years, and I would like to get the names of the songs so I can find them on iTunes. Thank you anyone who can help.

I agree. I don't particularly care for the lack of actual LFs, but in the big scheme of things, it is no big deal. Let's be glad they are actually covering weather for a change, and not doing :30 updates with "Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the Carolinas, now back to Peter Lik (or Twist of Fate)."  :rofl2:

Now that I think about it... since they haven't been airing an actual LF during the event but one every 30min the other day... is Storm Alert music discontinued?

Has anyone with DirecTV or Dish seen their IntelliStar advisory crawl activated?
