Toronto weather
« on: March 08, 2008, 09:55:05 PM »
The same major storm system that has been wreaking havoc in major cities such as Cleveland and Buffalo
is doing the same with moderate to heavy snow across much of southern Ontario tonight. Only a fraction of
the amount of snow forecast for Cleveland is expected in Toronto. Check out the latest weather statement
from Environment Canada.

OFFICIAL WEATHER WARNING by Environment Canada on March 8, 2008 at 4:12 PM Eastern Time
A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect.

Major winter storm affecting southern Ontario...

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions.
Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements.

The winter storm which is affecting most of southern Ontario is now centred over Pennsylvania. This storm will
continue to push northwards towards the St Lawrence Valley tonight giving significant snow amounts to most of
southern Ontario. The first shot of snow began Friday morning over areas north of the lower Great Lakes and
last evening across eastern Ontario and ski country. The second round of heavy snowfall associated with
this storm began this morning. The heavy snow will gradually taper off from west to east tonight.

Storm totals will likely be near 25 centimetres along and east of a line from London to lake Simcoe then
to Petawawa. There is potential for 40 to 50 centimetres of snow over eastern Ontario including Ottawa
by the time this storm system moves out. Areas west of the London to Petawawa line should see between
10 and 20 centimetres with lesser amounts near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Regions located near
the St Lawrence Valley will see ice pellets and a risk of freezing rain mixed with the snow this evening.

Strong northerly winds with gusts up to 70 km/h are accompanying this storm. The strong winds combined with
fresh snow is causing blowing snow and whiteout conditions thereby creating dangerous driving conditions.
The winds will slowly diminish in strength tonight.

Travellers should be prepared to change their plans accordingly. Areas north of Lake Ontario and into the
St Lawrence Valley should not be surprised by the occurrence of some thunder and lightning as this vigorous low
passes by tonight.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation to update watches and warnings as required.

Kyle, thanks for the video clip!  I have subscribed to your YouTube channel, so I'll definitely be checking out more
of your great stuff you have.  No doubt about it.  Once I get a new PC complete with a TV tuner, hopefully I can
transfer some of the weather-related video I have into video files and in turn post on my YouTube channel.
This is so I don't just have emulator videos.

Meantime, as soon as we can, I'd like to go over with you my Ottawa area reporting sites on my map and possibly
for the non-map graphic screens (if there are enough to fill at least two, meaning at least eight).

Only when I get a new PC, that will be the case.  Many new desktops can have TV tuners included.

Where did you hear 12 to 16 inches in Toronto?  I thought the snowfall forecasted for that area was a fraction of that.
