Grand Forks hit 80 degrees today for the first time in three weeks, and it shouldn't get any warmer throughout the next several days.

We currently are sitting in an Omega Block, which is keeping us nice and dry at least through the next 38 hours before it breaks down on Thursday afternoon, bringing in an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms from then on out. SPC is quite confident about a severe weather episode on Sunday - the overall extended outlook is posted below.

Might as well point out how drastically things can change here temperature wise. Here is a comparison of the temperatures from Saturday to today.

Saturday's High: 93
Deviation From Normal: +18

Today's High (So Far): 62
Deviation From Normal: -13

Overall Temperature Change: -31
31 degree drop in highs over a 48 hour period. Rather impressive.

This high was hit at 10 AM today. It is now well after midday and our temperature has dropped to 54 with wind gusts to 40 mph.

Moderate risk of severe thunderstorms to our south with Grand Forks and its entire FA in a slight risk today. Large hail and damaging winds the main threat...with an elevated chance for tornadoes.

While the Northeast faces blistering heat, the Northern Plains will continue to see the mercury settle below average for the next few days. Yesterday's high of 66 was 11 degrees below our normal high of 77.

Slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon, and this times models are in outstanding agreement on today's scenario. There is a tornado threat and the possibility of very large hail here in GFK, while areas east could face a possible derecho scenario.

Adios drought. Rainfall totals in Grand Forks exceeded 2 inches in some areas just from this one storm, forcing a Flood Advisory for the county. With 2 inches of rain, the city is now above average for precipitation for the month of July, and only around .2 to .3 inches down from the annual average.  :thrilled:
