I really like the new Weekend View graphics.  I also voted for the lower 3rds abd hurricane graphics.

The Weather Center graphics are not my cup of tea.

I agree with the few that say cell phones should not be used in schools.  As Tyler said, you are there to learn.  It is very distracting when someone is sitting there texting away in the middle of a lecture.

On another note, I begin forecasting the weather for the school's newscast next Wednesday.  Did a dry run last week and it went well.  Downside: makeup. And I only get to do it twice a month.  Better than nothing.

Best of luck, WeatherWitness!

As for the math, it is NOT my thing.  I almost gave up my dream of meteorology because of math, but I just wouldn't have been able to live with myself had I quit because of math.  Just go in with an open mind, ask questions and get help when needed.  Eventually something will click and you can get through it :)

Back to Irene ratings.  I am not surprised that TWC was the number one source.  Like some of you have already mentioned, their programming sucks, but when it comes to covering the weather (especially severe weather events), their coverage is great!

The only problem, in my opinion, is Bryan Norcross.  He seems very uncomfortable while on-air and seems to stumble from time to time (I know nobody is perfect).  He seems to know his stuff, but I just don't think he is great at communicating it.  Dr. Knabb is great.

On the other hand, TWC did a great job with having Carl do updates from the expert desk during severe weather events.  He is a fantastic meteorologist, and definitely communicates that in a clear, concise way.

I think Adam Berg is a great addition to the field team.  I also like when Paul Goodloe gets out there.

First possible landfall of a hurricane in two seasons?  Yeah, it makes sense that they are making a huge deal.  I mean, really, it is.  I was tuned in last night, and Kim Cunningham kept repeating that they aren't trying to scare, just prepare.  Unfortunately, I think that does get people scared or worried, but I know that's not what TWC intends to do.

Good for her.  I have always enjoyed watching Julie and I wish her all the vest whether she continues her career at TWC or goes elsewhere.

I, too, will be moving into a dorm for the first time this week.  I am pretty excited to be out on my own.  Good luck to everyone else starting school/college!

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: What I'm enjoying here...

Though my math skills are ehh, I still have a passion for weather and meteorology no matter what...so I totally agree with ya there. I'll be treating that as a hobby and share it with awesome friends. ^_^

As early as the 7th grade, my teachers were telling me that I'd really need to improve my math skills if I wanted to take up meteorology as a career.  By the time I got to the 10th grade, they were telling me that it's just a lost cause.  Some people have that skill, and others don't.  Studying like mad can only get you so far, but if a person truly struggles with even simple mathematics all the time, that's how he is, that's how he's always going to be, and so he should look for a different career choice.

I was so bad in math that my 12th grade advanced calculus (how I ever ended up getting put in that class is beyond me) teacher actually bribed me to leave and never return.  By the end of the first quarter (so the last half of October), my grade was 7.  Out of 100.  It was obvious that this was not the class for me.  Because it was already too late to transfer to a different math class, and because I had straight "A"s in everything else, she cut a deal with me.  If I left and never told anyone that I was even occupying valuable space in her classroom, she would give me an extra 60 points so that I could officially withdraw from the class with a passing grade, and that would be the end of it.  I didn't need the credits, actually, so this would be no benefit, but especially no harm, to me.  Of course I accepted, and I spent that hour every day instead puttering around my school's TV studio - and, unlike my math teacher, they were very happy to have me around.  :)

That is horrible (about the teacher and being put into advanced calculus).  I was thrown into Pre-Calculus right after Geometry in my junior year of high school.  The first day I looked at the syllabus and went to drop the class, couldn't do it.

I was on the same road as you, not *the best* at math.  I've always been a B/C student when it comes to math.  I took the pre-reqs to Calculus I in College, took Calculus I during this past spring semester and by the mid-term I was getting a 60%.  I'd like to think this isn't an excuse, but I just could not learn from the professor (obviously).  Took it again this past summer and did great.  You just can't give up, and you can do anything you set your mind to (sup cliche?) :P

I don't really discuss in the weather forums, but I definitely should visit more often

Good luck with your classes, Christina!

I start August 22nd, but I head up to school in six days, and I am excited.  I will transferring as a junior, so it's a whole new experience for me, and I cannot wait.

Also, for you college students who have to buy books; ever heard of renting from chegg.com?  You can also sell books back.  I saved $115.00 on three books, and sold one back for a good chunk of dough.  I HIGHLY recommend it!  Shipping is paid for by chegg.

Everything Else TWC / Re: TWC Social

Interesting concept, for sure.

Alex- I think you're wrong.  I think it is TWC giving viewers another way to get their weather quicker, and more convenient.  Within recent history, TWC has really been pushing social media and their website.  At the television station I worked at, they were always plugging their website/Facebook/Twitter and youtube page.  It's a new trend in media.  I think TWC is doing a fine job in that area.

But why vent political views in a WEATHER forum? Come on, guys. If you want to talk politics, take it somewhere else, please. All I want to do is have a nice discussion about TWC, weather, pretty much anything that isn't controversial.

btw, Zach, this was the answer to your question you asked me on twitter. xD
If we just talked about weather here, site traffic would dramatically decrease. For example, this thread is the single most discussed thread on the forum, and it has nothing to do with TWC. Very few online communities are 100% specific to one subject.

Bottom line is I think we need to start handing out more warnings when they are needed. I don't believe we (myself included) hand out enough warnings for people who start arguments and attack other members. With that said, I also believe many people here take things to heart way too much, and are very immature. You can't take everything everyone says to you online seriously. If that's how you live your lives, you're in for a rude awakening when you get out into the real world.

I completely agree.

It's sad that some people can't accept another's opinion.  It's great to stand by what you believe, but come on, don't push it on someone else.  Respect the fact that everyone has their own opinion.

78 Degrees/Mostly Cloudy Skies.

I'm tired of humid/hot weather.  I am ready for Thunderstorms and highs in the 70's.  Can't complain too much, our friends in TX and OK have it much worse.
