Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: November 06, 2014, 04:13:15 AM »
i don't know what's going on, but it looks like the 3 AM CT edition of Weather Center Live has been replaced with Long Form Programming, is there a issue at TWC headquarters in Atlanta or did they decided that the 3 AM CT to 4:30 AM edition of Weather Center Live was no longer needed and just decided to extend the overnight lineup to end at 4:30 AM CT for Wake Up With Al to kick off the live weather coverage of the day.

right now, what's on is Weather Caught on Camera.

update: WUWA now starts at 4 AM CT, looks like the 3 AM CT hour of Weather Center Live got canceled via budget cuts.

if The Weather Channel is sold off and spun off of NBCUniversal, then i expect Disney or Time Warner to be in a big bidding war over the future ownership of the network. and i can see Time Warner winning it, putting it in the Turner Broadcasting networks (TBS, TNT, TruTV, HLN and CNN) and then merging it with CNN and re-branding it to CNN Weather.

I don't like the conecpt of dual feed. TWC says they'll only cut into longform programming for areas that are impacted by severe weather; but that only works for people who have cable and are served by a local Intellistar/Intellistar 2 JR/IntelliStar 2. What about those who have satellite, and may have limited or no internet access, and cannot view the live stream on Youtube? I would definitely change the channel to a more credible local station if that were the case. There are too many flaws with the dual feed system; and the severe weather cut-ins should be aired nationwide.
From what I hear: work is being done with Sattelite providers to provide this local dual feed.
Any talk of TWC working with DTV/DISH to get WATT during longform?

i like the idea of a "alternate channel" for The Weather Channel for Satellite providers so we can get the same coverage the cable providers get from Dual-feed

example, if there's a Tornado outbreak in the midwest but it's not significant enough for a live wall to wall on the main feed, then the main feed plays the schedule long form and the Alternate channel shows the same feed that's fed to cable providers in the markets affected in the path of the tornado outbreak.

if Dish and Direct can provide a alternate feed for the Regional sports networks and the ESPN Networks and MLB Network and NHL Network, they can try to the same for The Weather Channel.

i see on Dish's feed of TWC on 214, the HD version has the LDL bar missing with the words and icons and number and bells and whistles of the LDL bar on. something tells me the LDL is glitched up as they went to "red mode" due to the wildfires in So Cal and another severe thunderstorm outbreak.

also on the SD feed, red TWC logo and blue LDL bar.

and LOT8s is still playing the normal rotation instead of the Storm Alert theme.

Edit: and as of 8 PM CDT , they went to regularly scheduled program, with the LDL bar glitch is on the HD feed

second and final edit: as of 8:15 PM CDT, the LDL bar is gone from HD feed and the SD LDL bar is back to the just blue with no info at the bottom.

well, The Weather Channel is in the news for all the wrong reasons after a tweet from a ticked Fort Worth, TX City councilman. Fort Worth Concilman Joel Burns complained that The Weather Channel app used a photo of Dallas instead of Fort Worth and deleted the app. however, TWC's twitter said this: "@JoelBurns Sorry to see you go. Good luck on ending bullying."

it caused a public outcry locally and more people are standing up and deleting the app in support of Councilman Burns, who is activist in the war on bullying as in he is against it.

The Weather Channel later posted an apology on twitter:
"@JoelBurns we apologize for our reply this morning. Our response was inappropriate & we're taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again."

in fact, it's making the rounds on all the local news sites here in the DFW area, here's the story from WFAA, the local ABC station here in the DFW Metroplex:

back to blue LDL as they go to break, ether they are having issues or are depending on the dual feed technology.

the LDL bar is now black with red TWC logo, but no "Storm Alert" music just yet on TWC. but on the live coverage, the "Weather Center Live" logo and the "Live" graphic are blue while studio is in "Red Mode" we are on semi-storm alert but not full blown until the rest of the graphics go red and storm alert theme is playing during LOT8s, which i'm sure might happen as soon as midnight eastern/11 PM my time.

watching the "Raging Nature" Tornadoes special, and i noticed, when they show a shot of skyscrapers in background, claiming to be in Oklahoma City while talking about how important the OKC media were during major outbreaks of Tornadoes, except, those Skyscrapers aren't in OKC, in fact, they aren't in the state of Oklahoma.

that's right, they used a clip of a helicopter shot of Downtown Dallas.  i should know, i live in North Texas and see those familiar skyscrapers on Fox (KDFW) 4, NBC (KXAS) 5, WFAA (ABC) 8, AND CBS (KTVT) 11 ALL THE TIME.

Winter Weather / Re: Winter Storm Cleon
« on: December 05, 2013, 02:44:49 AM »
North Texas too is gonna fell Cleon's wrath too. this is gonna be the coldest cold snap since the Groundhog day Blizzard of 2011 where the activities/events in the DFW area which was the host city of Super Bowl 45 were affected by that storm's affect. we also had a full week lost for several school districts in the area because of the dangerous roads. and temps in the teens/single digits in the area during the peak of the cold snap part of the system. it was pretty bad, and what made it worse was that the Texas Grid that is ran by ERCOT (The Electric Reliability Council of Texas) forced several power companies in the state to do rolling blackouts in the morning of February 2nd of that year. it was pretty miserable that day, and to add insult to injury, i was fighting a nasty cold during that cold snap too. i hope history don't repeat itself as in ERCOT better be ready this time after what happen last time it got this cold in North Texas.

i think if we get a hurricane or major weather event to warnant "Red Mode" (formerly Storm Alert mode), they should have the Logo go red as well.

if you have dish network and wondering why you lost your HD channels including The Weather Channel HD, the answer is, a satellite failure has happened.

sometime yesterday (as it's past Midnight Central time as i'm posting). the satellite on 129 failed big time and all the HD channels on 129 went away. Dish knows the problem and are trying to fix it. so don't worry, there's no dispute over carriage of these channels at this time, as the HD channels are also on another satellite for the east coast setup. the 129 setup is mostly west coast.

for more info, i suggest you check up with SatelliteGuys.US and DBSTalk.com as well as Dish's website and their facebook and twitter account if you haven't gotten updates yet.

i hope the HD channels return real soon.

Belo made a last mintue deal with Time Warner, so they will not be pulled from the TWC DFW lineup as well as all other Belo O&O stations/networks in other TWC markets
