Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: February 05, 2016, 04:38:42 AM »
if it's indeed an account created by TWC just to let normal viewers know of any programming changes brought on by severe weather, then this would be a great use of Twitter to warn viewers of a programming change

also if it is a Weather Channel official account (and if so it will get "Verified" check symbol on it's twitter page), then the logo looking weird and not right could be a hint of an impending logo change.

the current logo is now 10 and a half years old as it debut in the August 2005 relaunch of TWC and been the logo since then despite minor changes which are logo color changes.

plus i would mind it being the "Updated 2016" logo as they were due up for it anyway.

well, it's a pretty sad story made even sadder now that we know he took his own life.

it's a horrible loss for The Weather Channel family, the NBCUniversal Family and his own family and close friends and co-workers.

May he rest in peace.

i wonder what drove him to kill himself, was it depression, was it terminal illness, or did he recently had something bad happen to him, we may never know, but all i know for sure is Suicide is a sad way to end one's life and there's a way to find help if you are tempted to do it.

if you are thinking about committing suicide, please go to this website:
http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ or call 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

the national suicide prevention hotline can help if you are suicidal. they will help you talk yourself out of it and will help you turn your life around.

i have never attempted committing suicide in my life or called the hotline. but i figure it's the right thing to do by mentioning the hotline and the site, since we know now that Nick's death was indeed a suicide.

and plus, he's trending on Facebook's trending section.

looks like Winter Storm Jonas will be a major player in the east coast. and because of that, The Weather Channel seems to be doing extended coverage, as according to the listing on Dish, they will be live till Midnight ET/ 11 PM CT.

the listings that confirmed the extended coverage of Jonas are:
Weather Underground: 5-8 PM CT
Winter Storm Jonas: A Special Report: 8-11 PM CT.

i would like to wish everyone in Jonas' current path that will get the blizzard and severe weather good luck at staying safe from the storm.

we here in North Texas were feeling Jonas' wrath earlier with rain and hail, but not really bad severe stuff, but he's moving away from North Texas now.

i was disappointed with them wrapping up at 9 PM CT, but at least they did just as good of a job covering it as i live in North Texas, the storms were pretty bad and i think The Weather Channel was the first place where i saw the tornado that stuck the Dallas/Rockwall County line in the Lake Ray Hubbard area in Garland and Rowlett.

this tornado outbreak was pretty bad, but the worse hit areas were in Dallas, Rockwall, Collin and Ellis counties.

my home of Campbell, which is in Hunt County was spared the worse of the weather, but my thoughts and prayers to those in the hard hit areas affected by the tornado outbreak.

also i got give The Weather Channel a A, WeatherNation a B+, and WFAA Channel 8 (the ABC station in the DFW area), KDFW Fox 4, KTVT CBS 11, KXAS NBC 5, News-talk 820 AM WBAP (which aired their coverage at point on all of the Cumulus owned radio stations in the DFW area as Cumulus owns WBAP, and also WBAP is DFW primary EAS station for EAS alerts) and News Radio 1080 AM KRLD and 88.9 KETR out of Commerce (local NPR station owned by Texas A&M University of Commerce) a A+ for their severe weather coverage tonight. in North TX, 88.9 for closer to home for me, and the rest of the DFW TV and Radio stations for DFW area coverage.

and all the local stations just wrapped up their coverage just a while ago, KXAS ended their coverage first at 10:30 PM, then WFAA wrapped it up a short time later as did KDFW fox 4, then CBS 11 KTVT was the last to wrap it up.

i have a feeling this will end up being ranked a EF3 to EF5 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale by the NWS

i been watching TWC the last few minutes and it looks like The Weather Channel is now on Red Mode (minus the full LDL being in black with a red TWC logo and the current storm alert LOT8 music) and they seem to be using red and black fonts in the graphics.

this is the first time i seen it be in red/black fonts since they adopted the current graphics recently, they didn't do this during the South Carolina historic flooding or last week's coverage of Texas flooding and Hurricane Patrica as well.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Weather Channel for Sale
« on: October 28, 2015, 05:07:17 PM »
well, now that IBM is buying out everything but the TV channel, here's something interesting about this, i decided to type up the potential new TWC domain names and got some results.

so far i got this:
NBCweather.com (if TWC rebrands to NBC weather if NBCUniversal keeps TWC the channel) : got nothing, CBSweather.com (if CBS buys the TV side out and renames it): it redirects to the CBS corporate site.
theweatherchannel.com and weatherchannel.com (if TWC name is retained in new ownership or NBCUniversal keeps it): redirects to weather.com.
ABCweather.com (in event of Disney buyout and name change): a domain squatter bought this domain and using it to try to harm computers.
FOXweather.com (in event of Fox buyout and name change): went to a site unaffiliated to 21st Century Fox, so it's possible they may redirect to Fox News' website's weather section if Fox does buy it out and renames it.
CNNweather.com (in event of Time Warner/Turner Networks buyout and name change): nothing, no site exist.

so basically, looks like CBS may buy out The Weather Channel TV network and maybe rebrand it to CBS Weather with the fact the CBSweather.com domain redirects to cbscorporation.com

If IBM's buying The Weather Company, do they buy the actual network and partner with a media company where they get minority ownership and they are the ones in charge of the TV side.

if so, i want CBS or Disney to be the media partner/minority owner.

I don't know if it's a glitch but I just heard the Storm alert music on the LOT8s.

EDIT: Now I understand why. TWC will be on air until 11PM ET to cover Hurricane Patricia. As of now, the LDL still remains blue but Storm Alert music is on LOT8s (it should of been used during the SC storms).

also, a major flooding rain event is happening in Texas as well.

JOAQUIN is still a Cat 3, will we see Storm Alert/Red Mode?????  Sam said this morning that TWC is now 24/7 Live till JOAQUIN passes. Hopefully that's true since I saw longform at 8 Eastern last night! Honestly! 1 step forward, 2 steps back!

well, it depends on where it hits and whether or not it's a Cat 3, 4, 5 or a weaken cat 1 or 2 or Tropical Storm or Tropical Depression or Post-Tropical Cyclone by the time it hits land if it does hit land at all.

speaking of which, Joaquin is now a Cat 4 Hurricane and is possibly gonna peak at Cat 5 if it continues to strengthen tonight

WUTV is still live at 8pm tonight. And, Keith and Kelly will be on from 9-midnight.

This would be a great schedule for every night...
I'm guessing it's because of Trop. Storm on the east coast and not the Trop. Storm itself BUT.......this is a good start of things to come!!!!!

yep, they are doing extended coverage of a prolonged rain event in the Northeast that could cause major flooding across the Northeast as well as the uncertain impending arrival of Tropical Storm Joaquin, which could hit the Northeast as a Cat 1 or 2 Hurricane, that is if it does make a path towards there.

looks like The Weather Channel is slowly going back to it's roots as a way to get the channel sold to someone else, sorry to see Vivian parting ways with TWC, but i not surprise to see Al Roker's show go due to the potential sell of of The Weather Channel to it's new potential owners as if it's sold to say CBS or Disney (owners of ABC) or Fox, Al Roker wouldn't be working for the channel as he's currently under contract with NBC Universal.

i hope this plan does well to bring the channel back to a "must go to" status as in the last few years TWC has been doing less weather coverage when people need them the most.

Local Forecast / Re: What do you want to return to the LF
« on: August 29, 2015, 04:24:39 PM »
on the satellite version, i would love to see the return of the Severe Weather related things like currents watches and warnings, the severe weather outlook and the maps of the country that shows where there could be rain chances in the areas shaded in green and thunderstorms shaded in red.

looks like Dish has cropped out the part of the HD feed to remove the extra stuff like the "Today's Top Stories thing and the extra info like Hail reports, weekend getaways and others stuff that you would see on the right side of the screen
I'm staying at a hotel with Dish, and the HD Feed still has the sidebar.

i was talking about the SD feed,
