Concentric Eyewall (aka TWC Dan) has a website, and I was wondering how to contact him because no one, including him, visits his website with any regularity.  He said he had a bunch of videos from 1999 and 2000 that he could put up soon.  However, I believe the only way to contact him would be to contact him on a different forum, since no one actually goes to his website much.  If you are here, Concentric Eyewall, could you consider posting those videos soon?  Thank you for any response.

Everything Else TWC / TWC Mission Statement

[At The Weather Channel, our primary goal is to deliver the weather information that our customers need. This information can help people prepare for their day-to-day events, and also protect them from dangerous weather situations.]

No mention of global warming or long-term complications.  Based on this, the Weather Channel is not serving its purpose with Forecast Earth, unless they consider it a dangerous weather situation (which unfortunately they probably do.)

OCMs & Personalities / OCM Ages?
« on: September 21, 2008, 12:30:42 AM »
I am going to attempt to predict OCM ages, particularly focusing on the long-time male meteorologists (because, by and large, they are the more experienced ones.)

Dave Schwartz-Mid 50s (I know he worked in the mental retardation field before his job at TWC, so he should be at least 50)
Jeff Morrow-Mid 50s
Bill Keneely-Around 50 (has to be at least upper 40s, because of his longevity)
Rich Johnson-Upper 40s
Warren Madden-Anywhere from 40 to 55, but I will guess upper 40s
Mark Mancuso-Mid to upper 50s; even when he started out, he didn't look that young
Cheryl Lemke-Upper 40s

Anyone know the actual ages of any of these meteorologists?

Thank you!  It was pretty good quality.  There are a couple of videos with that shot on YouTube, and I do see the transparent map on those.  I was just surprised, because I thought the Studio 1A space took up the area that included that map, but I guess not.  That was the same map used that separated the old forecast center from 1998-99 from the main desk, right?

That would be nice!

They actually used a lot of behind-the-desk shots, especially into 2006 when they renovated the behind-the-desk area and replaced all of the CRT screens with LCD screens. The practice dwindled after that year, but they still used the camera shot from time to time in 2007 and 2008 until they decommissioned the studio.

The map was still there to the end, as you can see.

Is it possible you could use a different format other than avi?  I can only hear what is going on in that format, it has no video.

I know it was hosted by Dave Schwartz in 1998 per TWC Dan's site.  Speaking of which, I hope he has some 1999 and 2000 clips up soon.

I know what you mean with that transparent glass map, but did they get rid of it with the renovation in October of 1999 when they got rid of the Forecast Center?

Well, that's interesting, I figured it continued until 2003 or so,when they changed the openings for different programs.  You said you had footage from September 10th, 2001.  Is there any possibility that would include the segment closings for Weather Center?

From 1998-early 2000, TWC used shots that were right above the meteorologists, and looked out into the studio.  Starting sometime in 2000, they used shots that looked back towards the meteorologists from the back of the studio, so that is what I'm looking for.  They used a standard camera for that from mid-2000 through probably 2003, when they started ending segments with maps instead of studio shots.

from 2000-02 when they used to have a reverse shot at the end of all the Weather Center segments?  They usually lasted about 10 seconds, with the opener music playing.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Old Studio Use?
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:41:26 PM »
The old studio will be converted to office space. Not sure if it will be office space for TWC or other companies, though.
Why would other companies have office space inside TWC's building?
My guess is that TWC didn't see the same potential for that "old" studio that I saw, and might be deciding to lease it out.

Then my question is, where are the off-camera meteorologists going to have their offices or space?

Everything Else TWC / Old Studio Use?
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:32:04 PM »
Now that the broadcasts have been moved to the new HD studio, what has become of the old studio used from 1997 to May of 2008?  Is it just the off-camera meteorologists' workplace?  It is sad they had to move into a new studio to broadcast in HD.  My entire tenure watching TWC, they have been in that studio, which is since 1998.  It is hard to cope with such a boring studio (when I say boring, I mean lack of activity other than the few meteorologists; I used to love the studio shots they did from 1998 to about 2002.)
