At 1:25 am Irene made landfall on Puerto Rico.

One can hope that she's reached a point in her recovery, both physical and emotional, that allows her to take part in activities that she enjoys, and that she's able to enjoy what she can do as opposed to worrying about what she's no longer able to do.

I just checked various websites - TWC, Accu-Weather, and the NWS.  They're all predicting Irene to impact the Daytona Beach area from late Thursday to early Saturday.

Um... yes?  :smoke2:

Sadly, I don't think she's ever going to be able to resume her career.

Of course, the track out into the open ocean would be beneficial for all (except, maybe, poor Texas), but I think that's the least likely of the scenarios.  Of course, the way this year's been going, all bets are off.

Speaking of Texas, Don's literal and rapid disintegration still shocks me.

I can picture the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.  A tropical wave forms right off the coast of Africa.  Storm alert for the entire Gulf and Atlantic coastline for the next two weeks.  :)

I've seen the projected path skirt all over the Florida peninsula, from off the east coast to off the west coast to everywhere in between.  Unless it fizzles out like Emily or veers considerably off of this projection, though, it looks like the third time's the charm (oh... "joy") and I'll be experiencing something from Irene.

P.S.: Why do I always keep wanting to write Irčne?  Because that's what the name is in two of my three languages.  :)

I've never liked Firefox at all and can't understand why people prefer it.

I use Google Chrome and like it very much.  Before that I used Opera.

It's way too early for storm alert mode, in my opinion.  Basically, all they're saying now is that the entire state of Florida should be prepared for a possible landfall or near-miss during the second half of next week.  We don't quite yet know where, we don't know exactly at what strength, but... be prepared.

It's a good thing to let people know ahead of time that a tropical cyclone may be coming.  But such an advance warning doesn't require sounding alarm bells quite yet.  The first two storms this year (Bret and Emily) that were "supposed" to affect Florida just didn't.  Irene seems a better bet, but... you never know.  It could do what Emily did and fizzle out.

I'll be honest - I'm not usually a fan of "fancy" 3-D maps.  But I have to admit that these maps, especially the top one, are absolutely gorgeous.

Thank you - it's clear now.  And you're 100% right.

Now I'm confused.

Originally, we were told that any requests to the Star Team would have to be approved by an administrator before it could be made.

Now, it's that we're supposed to police ourselves under penalty of an immediate 50% warn or worse?

I can understand the logic behind not being able to monitor every post that's made in the forum, but these two statements that have been made can't exist together in the same rule about making requests.

So, what is it?  Do we contact an administrator first?  (And then what happens?  Are we given permission to post it ourselves, and what mechanism exists to show other members and administrators that it's been approved?  Or is it posted for us by an administrator?)  Or, do we simply post a request and hope that it's valid, with the knowledge that an improper request will result in a severe punishment?

Yeah, this is too much crowded onto one map.  Separating the storm data from the projected track seems like a better idea.

Looks great!  Maybe the icons for Roswell and Union City could be adjusted down a little bit.  Do you want the wind observations to be unjustified?  Otherwise, it looks perfect!
