General Discussion / Re: The Debt Ceiling Deadline
« on: September 23, 2011, 11:22:42 AM »
Keeping in mind that I'm a member of the Communist Party, I believe that income should be equalized amongst everybody.  :)

There's no need for rich and poor.  In fact, the only way the rich can become and stay rich is at the expense of the poor.  If every person is supposed to be equal, then why should there be such a huge difference in income?

If a person deliberately chooses to be lazy and not work, then he should suffer the consequences solely as a result of his actions, or lack thereof.  But there is no excuse whatsoever for a hard-working family to be left in poverty because of lack of access to better education and better job opportunities.  For the richest country in the world to have such a large number of poor and impoverished people is unforgivable.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Since that's the case they should enhance the 16% to show the info the 33% showed.

I'm not quite sure how this would be possible, given the very limited space of the small LDL.  Other than the line identifying the location, there's only room for one line of text with graphics.  No radar, no daypart or extended forecasts: only one line each for current conditions and forecasts.

The 33% LDL would certainly give more information, which is why I am so puzzled and disappointed that TWC categorically refuses to use it.  Two local forecast segments are hardly enough, the L-bar is distracting (and a terrible waste of empty space on the HD feed), and the 16% LDL is barely adequate considering the greatly reduced amount of weather information on the channel.  The 33% would at least help to fill in the gaps, but TWC won't use it.

Now I'm wondering just how much longer it will be before TWC becomes a full-fledged network with only weather-related programming, with perhaps just an hour or so in the morning and evening reporting on the weather in a news-style presentation.  At one time, I would have thought such a thing impossible.  Now, I'm thinking it's only a matter of a couple of years, if even that long.

The network I once loved is disappointing me in ways I couldn't have even dreamed of.

Jeez, its really warm in here!!! I'll be back when winter comes :P

Yeah... we Southerners are going to end up with some serious heatstroke if we stay in here too long.  :)

I remember when I had a checking account earning 6% interest during the 90s.  Today, you can't find anything above 1% unless you want a long-term CD.

I earn about eight-tenths of a percent in interest every month.  I know people with savings accounts at some banks who earn nothing, or as close to zero as one can get without actually being at zero.

In a nutshell, the rich not only should pay more in taxes than the poor, but I don't think they pay enough.  Not by a long shot.

I can say for certain the 33% LDL will not be returning.

That's a shame.  It's a great loss of information that could be displayed, especially considering TWC is reducing local forecasts to only two an hour.  The regular LDL isn't detailed enough, and the L-bar still leaves plenty to be desired.

I was so excited when the 33% LDL first appeared, and I was looking forward to seeing more of it.  You can imagine my disappointment when it was discontinued.

...and the latest forecasts have all 21 names used this season for only the second time...2005 being the last time.

This season has certainly been a busy one so far, but I'm not quite so sure we're going to get all the way to "W."  However, with La Niña coming back, it's at least a possibility.

It would be nice if the 33% LDL returned = more wx info

FINALLY - someone else who wants to see it return, too!

Slow news day for NPR

Would you rather hear about terrorism or another tsunami, or will you tolerate a slow news day?  :)
It was a joke.

Hence the :) .

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

I'm extremely surprised that some people here are calling for the L-bar to be permanently displayed, considering how much opposition there was to the expanded LDL, which people said made the screen too crowded already.  I'd personally like the expanded LDL to return at the expense of the L-bar, which has a lot of wasted space (especially in the HD feed).

You should see the comments made about this on the Facebook page of one of the local TV stations here.  Everyone and everything from NASA's inability to send a shuttle up to retrieve it (as if a shuttle can be launched on virtually no notice) to NASA's ineptitude at being unable to predict exactly where or even to change its orbit to Obama's budget cuts (?!) has been blamed.

Apparently, we've gone back almost 2,000 years—this morning, the YWT teaser showed the date as September 19, 0211.

That would explain the déjà vu I've been feeling all day.  :)

An XL AND an IS2? And in Cincinnati...?

It's not at weird as it seems.  The Star for the SD feed and the Star for the HD feed are two separate pieces of equipment.  It's very possible for one headend to spend the money for an IS2 without upgrading the SD Star, and it's also possible for the HD star to be located at a different headend that just feeds the channel and IS2 into the more local headend.

I just happened to turn on TWC just as it was starting.  It was very touching.
