TWC and your Cable Company / HD in Daytona Beach!!
« on: January 28, 2012, 10:16:07 PM »
My disappointment was truly premature!  Sometime when I was at work today Bright House added the HD feed to the lineup!  And... guess what... we have the IS2, something I didn't get for two years in Massachusetts!!!!

It looks GREAT!  And, yes, I actually did do a little happy dance!

Local Forecast / Re: IntelliStar Latest Observations
« on: January 27, 2012, 09:42:43 PM »
If you want to know when to see them, check out the :28/:58 LFs during live programming, and you can only see them if your STAR does not have marine forecast/tides products on them.
Then I guess I would not see it down at my grandparents in Florida since that's on theirs.  :( I see it every now and then at :28 like you have said. I was excited to see it again and I thought they had brought it back nationwide. Guess not. If you're on the coast, you still don't have it.

I live in Daytona Beach, and I do occasionally see it on the Intellistar.  It depends on what kind of weather there is.  If there's no metro radar (meaning no precipitation in the area) and the satellite/radar screen isn't shown, then the "latest observations" screens do sometimes appear.

That's why they are ETA's ;) cable headends do that all the time with the incorrect projection of channel additions

Also, IIRC, the launch was for BHN Tampa Bay only

Well... now I'm disappointed.  I'd like to see the HD feed again.  :(

Ironically, as bad as Bright House is, it actually has more HD channels than Comcast in Massachusetts, and Bright House doesn't charge extra to receive them like Comcast does.  (Granted, the monthly rental of an HD cable box is slightly higher, but only slightly.)  However, as far as I can tell and my memory stretches, the only major HD channel that Bright House doesn't have that Comcast does is The Weather Channel.

...so the ad crawl on the squeezeback is new?

I never saw it until the squeezebacks were reintroduced and slightly retooled.

Disappointment day.

Yesterday was the "expected" introduction of TWC HD on Bright House in Central Florida.

But, as I should have expected, it didn't happen.

I called Bright House's programming department, asked about it, and, refusing to answer me, they hung up.

It's returned... with an ad scroll!!!  Good heavens... I think that means they're so serious about using it again that they're willing to put the ad scroll on it.

I DID have to take a shower that instant because I had to be somewhere. Why would I lie? It was 56F yesterday. I know now I should have wore gloves but you guys don't need to be harsh on me and tell me right and wrong. I got a family that does that for me already so please, this is for everyone, I'm not some kind of idiot who looks for answers to my problems on a TWC forum. I like to briefly talk about them, but no need to go this far. I understand you people known I could have gotten hurt, but still, I have common sense :stupid:. When it in the 50's you don't think you'll get frostbite but I didn't expect to be riding in the wind.
Craig, we're just reacting because of how serious it sounded to all of us.  Our concerns are coming out in the harsh tone you're detecting.  I can see your point about the air temperature not warranting a frostbite risk, but whenever you expose your skin to moisture and/or wind, you can lower your skin temperature more than you think.  If your hands were starting to get cold, that's your signal to put your gloves on despite what the air temperature says.  I'm just glad that you're okay and hope you avoid this problem through our advice next time!

Well said.  :)

I didn't wear gloves because I didn't think it was going to get it, it was the wind chill that basically froze my hands. And I didn't take a shower to take care of the problem, I had to take a shower anyway

I have the feeling you should have known better.  Whenever it's cold, there's always the chance.  "It never happened to me before, so I doubt it will happen today" is a very unreliable predictor... and you can't even say that anymore!  And I doubt you needed to take a shower right that instant.

Really, you could have seriously hurt yourself.  That's why we're being so hard on you.  You don't seem to have learned your lesson.

Taking a shower after getting frost bite is not fun. Now my fingers are swollen.

Yeah... that's not good.  The best thing to do to warm up after coming in from the cold is to do it gradually.  Drink a hot beverage, eat soup, sit inside bundled up in warm clothing or a blanket for a while.  When your body starts to warm up, you'll know when you're back to normal.  However, going from cold to hot quickly can cause a lot of problems.

Two more days and Bright House is rumored to introduce the HD feed.  However, I've found nothing about it on Bright House's webpage or anywhere else online, with the exception of reports saying "the first quarter of 2012."  Well, it is already the first quarter of 2012.  :)

I think the protests are absolutely necessary.  While I agree that online piracy must be dealt with, PIPA and SOPA seek to "solve" the problem by literally strangling the internet itself.  As an analogy, it would be like dealing with mail fraud by arresting the mailman.

I think trying to predict the future of television in ten years is a little... impossible, to say the least.  :)

I don't think Weatherscan is going anywhere.  It probably won't be receiving any major updates or upgrades anytime soon, but what there is will likely remain.  As for an HD version, that's very unlikely.  Cable operators simply won't want to invest in so much bandwidth just for a repeating computer-generated weather report.

Blocking by IP address is usually effective only in the very short term.
