Everything Else TWC / Re: Updated WCL schedule and OCMs for Weekdays

I never understood the point of reairing Wake Up With Al for an hour at 10am ET when most of the weather content was outdated.

Repeating it for the west coast.  Otherwise, it would be too early for most viewers in Pacific time to watch.  Sure, they could do a second show, primarily for the west, but also for everyone else, live, or they could just extend Wake Up With Al to the entire time slot instead of splitting it up, but it's a lot cheaper to air the second show mostly from videotape.

I remember waking up extra early to watch the transition.  The extra information is good, but it still doesn't make up for the extreme amount of non-weather programming, or even the very poor quality of the weather programming that exists.  It's certainly not like what it was 20+ years ago, or even 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago, for that matter.

The Weather Channel: The weather happens when we say it does!

Brilliant!

With the layoffs of producers, will TWC even have enough employees and resources to pre-empt reality programming on weekends during severe weather?

Perhaps they think the (by now) tiny alert scroll above the LDL is plenty for people in an area of bad weather, and no one else in the country needs to be disturbed by bad weather on The Weather Channel.  Go back to watching... whatever the heck it is they show these days.  I've never watched the longform programming.

I wonder how much training a TV meteorologist has to go through just to be able to make effective use out of all this computer equipment.  Not only do you need a degree in meteorology, but you practically need one in computer programming and design, too!

Oh, for the days when a map painted on a wall and a grease pencil were all you needed!

Yes, special weather statements were shown on crawls ever since the WeatherStar XL.  They were on brown scrolls on the III and 4000.

Last year's relaunch, however, doesn't make any color distinctions between the different advisories anymore, so a tornado warning now looks exactly like a special weather statement.

Wonder what Direct TV has to say about this? I thought one of the reasons DTV and TWC made a deal was the adding of live hours that were taken away. The weekend live schedule is a joke with only 7 hours of weather.

The Weather Channel did change its schedule briefly to include more weather... but as soon as things settled down again it was back to "general entertainment" status for the channel.

General Discussion / Re: Local WeatherNation Stations

That's sad.  If that's the case, if WeatherNation is running infomercials on its national feed, then they've probably found themselves in serious need of cash and they're just trying to drag this out as long as they can before they finally go belly-up.

I thought I was the only one with the textless 36-hour forecasts.  I first noticed it Friday evening after having only the national feed Friday morning.  It continues today.

General Weather Chat / Re: What's the weather in your area?

The first winter-like cold front of the season is moving through Florida, and what a change it's made!  Our temperature right now is 57° in Daytona Beach, 20° colder than what we've been experiencing lately, which has been, actually, a little above average.  Our low tonight is supposed to be in the lower 40s.

I'm eternally grateful that there's no snow, which my hometown in Massachusetts is expecting this weekend.  On the other hand, I also didn't come to Florida to shiver.  Nearly 30 years of living in northern climates has been erased by three years of living in Florida, and I can't tolerate anything colder than 68° anymore... :brr:

Any fatalities?

As far as I've heard, no.

How bad is the damage on Bermuda?

Surprisingly, not as bad as it could have been.

Sad.  She's such a great meteorologist and she has a wonderful on-air presence.

The dual feed to needs to go period. If the TWC really cared about the viewers they would get rid of it and go nationwide when bad weather strikes no matter where it is.

Sadly, they see more money in longform, non-weather programming, and that's the kind of viewer they're trying to attract.  By limiting actual weather programming to specific areas only, the whole rest of the country gets to "enjoy" the non-weather shows that The Weather Channel considers its top priority.
