I have to admit that I'm very impressed by their coverage on Isaac.  On the one hand, in their new long-form universe, maybe it seemed a little overhyped at times, but, on the other hand, compared to what TWC used to be, it was spot-on!

That's very interesting to see how the weather progresses throughout the day!  Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this!

I'm trying to find a tripod to go along with a camcorder I'm thinking about purchasing real soon, and I want to know: do all camcorders/cameras fit on any tripod?   I just wanted to make sure before I make any decisions.

So long as they use a standard mount, which the overwhelming majority will, then yes, it will fit.

It sounds like Xfinity is about ready to make some major lineup changes.  Either that, or they like wasting precious bandwidth.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Kirk

With Kirk forming, this Atlantic season has reached 11 tropical storms, the normal number for a year.  I don't think many people expected it to be an above average season, but that's where it seems to be going now.  NHC isn't sure if Kirk will reach hurricane status further out before it heads into the north Atlantic.

I'm honestly very surprised.  I thought it would be a typically slow El Niņo year.  Sure, we had 2 storms in May and 2 in June, but then absolutely nothing to speak of in July.  August isn't even finished yet, and we've already had seven storms form this month alone!

At least Katrina wreaked its havoc and moved on.  Isaac is just sitting pretty much in one place and barely budging, not getting any weaker, and dropping tremendous amounts of rain on the same areas that have already gotten a lot, not to mention the continuous storm surge the coast is getting.

Nope, Kirk.

Tropics, the final frontier...

Whatever happened to Joyce? It died off as a fish storm as well?

It just died out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean without coming near any land.  Unfavorable conditions killed it pretty quickly.

The Daytona Beach area is under a tropical storm watch... and my weather radio loudly informed me of that.  As I was trying to sleep.  I nearly crashed through the ceiling.

When I lived in suburban Boston, Comcast had the majority of its HD channels in the 800 range.  The 200 range was for standard definition expanded basic channels.

Bright House in Daytona Beach has all of its HD channels at 1001 and above, with the standard definition channels in the triple, double, and single digits.  I like this arrangement much better, but it would be convenient if the HD channels mirrored the SD lineup.

Comcast also always allowed the option to instantly switch from SD to HD with the touch of a button, but that option was only added to my Bright House cable box a couple of months ago.  Before that, I had to go to the program guide and hunt.

I just posted a similar thing in the blooper thread.  The Intellistar 2 showed (in the text-based, not primarily-picture, format) a one-sentence forecast for all three slides - just the weather conditions, no temperature, wind, or chance of precipitation.  The animation was accurate, but there was no narration due to time.

I just watched the local forecast on the Intellistar 2.  The 36-hour forecast (text format, not picture-only) contained text with the weather conditions, but no temperature, wind, or chance of precipitation information.  No narration due to time.

I think this is the first time TWC has utilized a couch in a set on air since Weekend View went HD in 2008...

Didn't "Flick and a Forecast" use a couch?

Back in the day I had an Atari 2600 and an Atari Jaguar, and I'm quite familiar with NES and SNES.

These days, though, practically the only video game (well, computer game) I play is "Civilization V," though I do have emulators on my computer for both the 2600 and SNES.
