Help and Support / Travel Cities Forecast
« on: January 09, 2015, 12:29:56 PM »
Not the XL emulator, but the 4000... and I didn't know where else to put this.

For the past couple/several (I have no concept of time) of months or so, I've noticed that the Travel Cities Forecast page doesn't load.  After a brief error message it does what it's supposed to by replaying the local forecast screens, but I haven't seen a working TCF on my emulator in quite a while.  In case it makes a difference, I'm using the default city list.

I wonder what it would take for them to preempt longform on the weekend.

More on-air staff in the studio???

It's a good perspective.  It's one thing to just complain about what gets lost, but it's another, very rewarding thing to think about all the good times there once were.

Hopefully never.  I didn't move to Florida to shovel snow. :bleh:

It seems that they're shifting to a strategy of having a whole bunch of part time OCMs who float to different shows randomly, and only have a few full time people. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

That seems to be the way the business world is operating these days.  Fewer full-time employees and more part-time employees means greater flexibility in scheduling (meaning fewer people working fewer hours but potentially doing more work), less benefits, less payroll.  In other words, it saves money for the employers but it's downright rotten for the employees.

Happy New Year!

Corporate management has its own ideas.  As usual, the failure of these ideas can never be blamed on the people who came up with them, but the people who have to implement them.  (I suffer the same way, too.)

Someone up there in corporate is still convinced that non-weather longform programming is the key to The Weather Channel's success.  The audience doesn't think so, the staff doesn't think so, but that's how it is.  If the channel loses money because longform isn't working out, one of the easiest ways to save money is by cutting payroll, even if it means losing a lot of longtime and dedicated employees.  Fewer on-camera staff means less weather programming, which means more of the longform programming that corporate management has so much faith in to begin with.

In other words, it's just a cycle that's going to continue until The Weather Channel as we know it will simply cease to exist because of how much money it's lost.

For what it is, Straight Talk is one of the better deals for wireless service out there. Unlimited talk and text, plus 3 GB full-speed data is pretty good for $45/month.

Net10, also in the Tracfone family, starts its unlimited service at $40 a month.

I use Net10 and pay only $15 a month plus taxes.  I don't talk on the phone much at all to begin with, but this is a pretty good deal for me.
Does that include, unlimited internet, text, and calls?

No, for $15 I get 200 minutes a month.  I use the phone so rarely, though, that I have over 1,000 minutes accumulated in my account.  Unlimited plans start at $40 a month.

Christmas music will start playing on the LF this week.

Christmas music has been playing where I work all month.  Bah humbug! :nono:

Yeah, that's quite a change!  I watch Orlando TV news and, while she's not my favorite of the meteorologists here, she has a good on-screen style.

45° in Daytona Beach right now.  It actually smells like winter outside.  I smelled the air before I saw what was outside, and I half expected to see frost on the ground. :brr:

Local Forecast / Re: Emergency Feed Sightings

I'd much rather watch the emergency feed repeat over and over again than watch "Highway Thru Hell," "Fat Guys in the Woods," or whatever else the powers that be consider to be "worthwhile entertainment" on The Weather Channel.
