Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC

I agree.  I know I'm in a minority when I say the LDA (with or without sidebar) is something I enjoyed when it debuted.  It provided SO much more information than the standard LDL.  Unfortunately, too many people complained that it made the video portion of the screen too small and "unimportant."

Given the importance TWC places on live weather programming these days, I wonder how many people would change their opinions to have more information in the LDA again...

Haha, TWC just wasted tons of money on the IS2 deployment only for the LOT8s to be scrapped.  :rofl2:

That's what gets to me, too.  The IS2 can't have been cheap, it's beautiful, has lots of potential, and yet TWC is reducing it to its barest form because they don't want to show local forecasts anymore.

Man, do I really miss the classic days of The Weather Channel right about now.  I miss it so much it actually hurts.

What does this mean?  The only actual meteorologist-on-camera-talking-about-weather segments will be these new meteorologist-hosted "Local on the 8s," and the rest of TWC's programming day will be longform that's barely related to weather in the first place?!?! :club:

Even with the accent, the writers were careful to make sure that only Lucy, Ricky's loving, caring wife, would make jokes about it.  On rare occasion Fred or Ethel would, but they're also friends.  Coming from anyone else, even 60 years ago, it would have been mean.

The movie Nine to Five, for example, is certainly a classic, very well-made, but the whole premise seems to have become rather outdated.  I'm not saying things have changed 100%, but compared to virtually no equality shown in the movie, there certainly is a whole lot more equality in the workplace now between men and women.

Even I Love Lucy has elements to it that simply will not work now.  Of course, the show is a timeless classic and always will be, but... the elements of "men are the earners and women are the spenders," women can cheer themselves up just by buying a new hat, and it's the role of the husband to discipline the wife have gone completely out the window sixty years later.  Just imagine a sitcom today in which the husband actually spanks the wife to discipline her!!  Back then, it was considered funny - Lucy was acting like a child and Ricky disciplined her like one.  Today, there's just no way that kind of humor would work on a modern sitcom... unless it was directly parodying I Love Lucy.

Local weather and information will always be on-screen

Looks like TWC is going to become like ESPN and Comcast SportsNet but with the LDL on 24/7.

I'd call for your tongue to be cut out for saying such a thing... except that it's probably true.

So this is the FiOS metro map in Tampa.. I want to know why more than half of the map is water?

By default, the home city for the Star is located in the center of the screen.  If the city's on a coast, then, naturally, one half of the screen will be land and the other half will be water.

When I moved to Daytona Beach in the middle of 2011, I noticed that my IntelliStar's maps had the same problem yours has.  I asked the Star team here in this forum to make an adjustment to show more land, and now the map is 90% land and 10% water.  In other words, they just moved the map further to the west to show more land and more cities.

Last year, we got the HD feed on my cable system with the IntelliStar 2, and, once again, Daytona Beach is in the center of the half-land/half-water map.  Unfortunately, the Star team told me it's a very different process for changing the map view on the IS2, and so there really wasn't much they could do for me at that time.  I assume nothing's changed since, which is why I have no intention of repeating my request.

I like it!  It's not as "pretty" as the more commonly-visited websites, but it has a lot of great information in an easy-to-use format.

It's my favorite game!  I play it on the Wii, and also on Facebook, too.  :twothumbs:

Could you explain more about the source of the idea that led you to creating this topic?  Maybe that would help everyone as I find it vague as well when I try to understand it.

Basically, I found myself with four consecutive days off next week, which never happens.  My aunt invited me to spend that time at her house, since, even though we live only two towns away, we hardly ever see each other because my work schedule is so busy.  However, because she's on a diet and strictly sticking to it, she said she wouldn't be buying much of any food that isn't normally a part of her diet, so it would be up to me to bring my own supply of food for four days.

To me, that just seemed, before anything, just bizarre.  What kind of host invites you but orders you to feed yourself?

Since Eric made this topic, we just had our most active day here in terms of posts for 2013. :P  Everything comes in waves around here.

And I'm told I often make threads needlessly. :smoke2:

I've never been told what topics are and are not allowed to have their own threads here, so I simply follow the guidelines I use at every other forum I visit.  If it disturbs you so much, please delete it.
