They found another thing people might not know about gorillas? :fear:

I think YouTube answered all of our questions by now. :smoke2:

I doubt they're going to make such a special announcement about things related to graphics or anything similar.

My guess is they're going to announce new longform programs or some other change to the schedule.  Maybe a personnel change regarding OCMs.

According to The Weather Channel's Twitter account, there will be a "special announcement" at 5:00 PM Eastern.  I wonder what it is... :dunno:

Local Forecast / Re: Why no narration in WeatherSTAR XL V1 in 2000-2001?

I remember getting a newsletter in the mail from The Weather Channel a couple of months before Vocal Local on the XL started.  It was an interesting feature to look forward to.  :)

At this point, I'm just wishing for 2013 to end completely.  This year has been a train wreck for me, and I fear that I've lost a lot of friends and appreciation in life.  Although I'm not too wild about colder weather, I have to accept it this year.

I agree 100% with you.  On the other hand, at least the start of 2014 looks like rock bottom is still to come...

As of yesterday TWC is airing yet another show called "Heavy Metal Monsters". Seems like the network will air just about anything to get higher ratings and more revenue   but I can pretty much guarantee that all if not many of TWC's viewers probably never watch those shows anyway.

And "Heavy Metal Monsters" is related to the weather... how, exactly?  :dunno:

I've never watched more than a couple of minutes of any of this programming, and those couple of minutes are only because I put the remote control down to temporarily free my hands for something else.

General Discussion / Re: NEW "Network Weather Channel" to launch nationwide
« on: September 17, 2013, 11:20:04 AM »
Won't be surprised if a copyright controversy popped up (hint hint The Weather Network) or lack of profits caused them to abandon the plan.

I doubt it's the first case.  There should be enough of a difference between "The Weather Network" and "Network Weather" to be acceptable, unless TWN's lawyers got insanely bored one day.  Besides, The Weather Network isn't available in the United States and I doubt Network Weather would be available in Canada, so arguing copyright infringement over the names would REALLY be pushing the envelope.

It costs a tremendous amount of money to start up a television network, and I suppose they just weren't able to pull it off.  Their potential backers could easily have said that there's already a channel dedicated to the weather.  They just don't care that the priorities of The Weather Channel have changed so much over the past few years and that Network Weather was going to go back to what The Weather Channel was once upon a time.

Lastly, why are people getting caught up in this latest hurricane record for September 11 in the Atlantic basin?  It's pointless compared to the real record for least activity, which goes to 1914 when only one tropical storm formed during the entire season.  There's even another season with no hurricanes documented, which was 1907.  So, I don't understand the big deal with this September 11 record when there were actually two seasons that never had a hurricane.

I suppose people are interested in it because it's one of those potential once-in-a-lifetime kinds of things.  Unless, of course, someone just celebrated his centennial birthday and probably couldn't care less.

Unless the Atlantic basin has a record-setting September and October, it looks like the predictions for this year were pretty off.  At least the good news is that fewer storms means the likelihood of serious damage is less.

Still haven't gotten any word about Xfinity and the IS2, all they're worrying about is the X1 DVR

How does this DVR differ from what they're already using?
