TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast Sucks.
« on: May 18, 2010, 11:12:48 PM »
This is the same model as my parents' first cable box from back in the day.  They still have it, as a matter of fact, sitting in a box in some closet.  I remember thinking the first time I saw it (other than way back in my youth when it was still in use) - "what the heck is this?!"

I do know that when the custom BGs for the 3000 failed on TWC's end, it would cue the blue one.

And abput the LOT8's FB page, I am the runner of it and I created it for people to become fans of it as there were no fan pages for it then. B)

Yep.

I figured that out.  :D

Nice idea Martin, I like how you put a white background behind the weather mods. I was seeing the white halo, but not always.

Not to be rude, but what the heck are you and Martin talking about?
I don't know what he is talking about. What I am talking about is the fact the images I have DO NOT have the white border on them. The white border shows up when the weather badge (the thing under your username) is created. To prove this point, here is your image you provided above with the old one. (I temporarily changed the partly cloudy icon because nobody had mostly cloudy as a CC anymore). As you can see, yes your icon is clearer but the white frame remains.

I prefer the top version - the moon is more visible.

Martin, it's my own opinion that The Weather Channel has seen a substantial decline in quality over the years, but especially since NBC bought the network.  Sometimes it really does seem that reporting the weather has taken a backseat to entertainment on The Weather Channel, and that the network is now nothing more than another entertainment output machine in the NBC family.

It shouldn't be this way at all, and, at one time, it wasn't.

On the "Local on the 8s" Facebook page I pointed out a good half-dozen reasons why the WeatherStar III emulation picture was a BIG fail.  B)

I can only imagine what horrific damage related to the oil a landfalling hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico could cause.  I don't even want to think about that, actually!

Your 7 Day looks exactly like this

I really love your concepts!

I didn't know you received Boston stations in Fall River!  I would have thought you'd be in the Providence market.

So true! Also, anyone remember the label error from December? :P

What label error was that?  :dunno:

I'm pretty sure it's the fact that NBC laid off all the good control workers and hired inexperienced, lazy control room workers and programming directors that don't know the definition of "theme music," or better yet, The Weather Channel.

Yep... that's how things work... unfortunately.  :(

Everything Else TWC / Re: New Pillarboxes?
« on: May 17, 2010, 02:33:20 PM »
Sorry for bumping, but I guess the old |HD| pillarboxes aren't retired.

Is it possible those are "burned" on to the program - as in the control room's not cueing them up, but they are literally on the tape?

Kind of like if you catch one of the weekend documentaries on MSNBC and you see their old logo because they just "burned" it on there.

Excellent point.

The sad part is that some other countries force oil rigs to have additional emergency shut-offs.  I know other rigs have an acoustic signal backup where a ship can send a sound wave towards the valve on the ocean floor, and it would shut itself off automatically.  That kind of technology would have been nice to have here.

Yes, I've read a lot of criticism that the U.S. doesn't require them.  Unfortunately, profit was put before safety.

I still say the old logo's better than the new one.

Actually, I still haven't gotten over the nostalgia of watching TWC as a kid.  Boy, those were good days... and, most importantly, The Weather Channel actually reported on the weather!  No movies!  Maybe a weather-related documentary a couple of times a year, but, boy, were they well produced!  ("Force Four" with Marshall Sease about Hurricane Hugo comes to mind.)

It's coming sooner than you think.
Yup, I can confirm this now. Let's just say it can happen any time in the not too far future

I'm 27 years old.  Will I be collecting my pension before it's released?  :rofl2:

Sorry... I just couldn't help myself!

Either I'm blind or my computer's playing games with me, because I still can't see any white edges around the icons!  :dunno:
