Has anyone seen the Haze icon? (See LDA)

About a month ago there was a lot of smoke from forest fires in Québec blowing south through New England, and I saw that icon used quite a lot for hazy and smoky conditions.

I saw another glimpse of TTV tonight, and there was a South Asian-based newscast in English. Eric might have been right; Ghettoscan might be in fact TTV, and the weather/traffic info is just filler.
Gee... sounds like such an interesting channel!  :P

But are any other Comcast viewers getting this? :dunno:

I'm not.

The Weather Bulletin is no longer appearing on the LDL or LF on IntelliSTAR 24688. This can be a safety problem during national programing when the LDL is used. It needs to be fixed due to the severe weather coming through. Thanks in advance!

The weather bulletin scrolling text should appear on the screen at all times, regardless of when the LDL is normally cued.  The only exception is when the cable company switches from the feed from The Weather Channel to show local commercials.

*Bump*

I know this has been discussed before, but is anyone getting a clock on the SD LDLs? :dunno: I think a clock may be provided for viewers with a STAR, but there is NO clock whatsoever on the national LDLs. (And I know no clocks are present on HD LDLs, either. :()

A clock was briefly added in the lower left (the part of the LDL that is national even for Intellistar viewers), but once the Intellistars got their own clocks on the new LDL, the national clock was removed.  Maybe someday they'll bring it back, especially considering it's not only the satellite viewers who see the national LDL now, but also all cable viewers with a non-Intellistar system - that's the XL, 4000, and Jr.

I was surfing channels, and I found something strange. It's called TTV, and it's a "ghetto weatherscan", if you will. It has sports headlines, weather conditions, and updates on the BP oil spill news headlines. There is no music and the production values are that of a looping PowerPoint presentation or a WeatherSTAR XL had it existed in the early 1990s.

Has anyone seen this, or is this a local thing? I looked online, and I saw absolutely nothing about it.

My best guess would be that it's a local channel, possibly originating with your cable operator.  I looked online and couldn't find anything, either, except that TTV is also the name of a Taiwanese television network. :)

Is the fail you're returning to the fact that they're using the pre-2010 icons?

I don't want to sound technologically uneducated, but why does everything in HD have to be 16:9? I don't understand why you can't have 4:3 HD programming.

You could, and HD stations actually do broadcast a good amount of 4:3 programming - some commercials and older programs that weren't made in widescreen format.

However, 4:3 programming on an HD television leaves black bars (called "pillarboxing") on the left and right of the screen.  Some people don't like letterboxing (black bars on the top and bottom of their standard definition TV screen), and some people don't like pillarboxing.

HD LDL on for special coverage today but weirdly on SD its the Big LDL

My guess is that it gives HD viewers the chance to see a bigger picture.

Honestly, it doesn't seem out of place for The Weather Channel to cover the oil spill.  Though not weather, it's still a major environmental issue.

Actually, it won't. I have learned that the LDA will continue to show (during programming that uses the 33% LDL) even with the HD STAR's 33% LDL (so you will see the left strip of data, not the bottom 5 day forecasts).

I like that idea.  Now... we just have to wait for the HD Intellistar to come out... and for cable companies to actually start using it!

These are 20 year old hunks of metal. If TWC wants them back that bad they can have them. I doubt they care haha

Especially since they're not only so old, but also banned from broadcast by the FCC, I don't think you have much to worry about. :)

Dave Schwartz would have spent the whole rest of the segment going on a tangent about the mistake.

I miss Dave :(

I do, too.

Does Comcast have any alternate weather feeds, like from a local news station or something?

Not here... anymore.  Boston's NBC station carried NBC Weather Plus, which had its own channel on Comcast digital cable, very near Weatherscan, actually.  However, since Weather Plus ended, no local station or cable network has had its own dedicated weather network.

Orlando television has two local channels with dedicated weather subchannels, but, of course, the weather in Orlando is oftentimes much worse than in Boston. :)
