Noticed This Error @ 6:00pm EDT yesterday for a split second (HD) Looks to be a new 30-33% LDL

Actually, I like this "error" very much!

Everything Else TWC / Re: The Weather Channel Spanish
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:26:28 PM »
When I had Directv, it used to have a channel called The "Weather Channel Spanish".

Was it a Spanish-language version (such as the Latin American version) of The Weather Channel, or was it a channel that reported on the weather in the Spanish language?

Also, I think Dr. Rick Knabb is a great replacement for Dr. Steve Lyons.  He seems to be very knowledgable and I look forward to his coverage throughout this season.

Yes, he's certainly knowledgable, but he also seems to be like a bit of dry toast on air... he hasn't yet developed his own television personality.

Darn, I forgot this :censored: special report on the oil spill was airing tonight...here I was all hyped up to watch Weather Center. I think I would rather have seen the emergency satellite feed featuring Trammell for an hour. <_<
FYI, Weather Center will never air during that timeslot on Fridays anymore. It's going to be assorted longform every week.

And least it's better than Flick and a Forecast... though barely.

Local Forecast / Re: TWC Showing Different Intellistar??

Well I don't know what the grey bar is, but I think the showing of a different city means something is wrong with HiRAD for your city.

Maybe the first message wasn't clear, which is why we have different answers.  While you're assuming it's HiRAD, I'm assuming it's actually a neighboring Star that's being shown instead of the local one.  I've seen both cases happen before.

About an hour ago a tiny gray bar popped up at the bottom-left corner of the screen and TWC started showing the Aberdeen/Bel Air, MD Intellistar instead of my area's (Columbia, MD). I've got absolutely no idea what the heck is going on!! I'll try to get a pic or something up later.

In my experience, sometimes your cable company will show a Star from a neighboring area if your local Star is having problems.  I've seen this happen twice, actually: Boston's Star was temporarily replaced by Worcester's, and Daytona Beach's was temporarily replaced by Orlando's.  In most cases, it won't last long.

When I can release information, don't worry, I will do so first on this forum. :)

Don't worry... we have some medieval torture instruments at the ready should you withhold information for too long.  :whistling: :club: :hammer:

I like reading the warning text as well but it's not practical for television viewers.  Also keep in mind that the national maps are more regional instead of the area that would be shown on your individual IStar.  A perfect method to show current alerts in a graphical form.

I'm afraid I still have to disagree - I prefer the weather bulletins provided in text form.  I've seen graphical examples like you show here on many different local TV stations.

Impressive on satellite!

I agree - classic textbook image.

Mike, I just noticed your signature graphic.  I'd been watching The Weather Channel for four years when you were born.  Now I'm feeling old.

I know this is a little late, but who made the agreement to continue carriage of TWC on Dish? Was it TWC or DISH?

Every agreement has to be a two-way street, meaning both Dish Network and The Weather Channel would have had to agree.

Keep in mind that Jackson hadn't had a formal relationship with the channel in a long time...surprised it's Jim Cantore and not Jim Cutler, really.

And they still use his voice?  Interesting.

Jim Cantore's voice is certainly one of the most recognized on The Weather Channel, especially in recent years when he's become the channel's top personality.

To this day, I still wonder why watch/warning maps aren't shown during the LOT8s.

The Stars have always had this information in text form.  The WeatherStar III and 4000 had it at the beginning of the Local Forecast pages, and the XL and IntelliStar have it on a separate Weather Bulletins page.  Would presenting it graphically be as efficient as the text page?  I personally don't think so.  Not everyone would know (believe it or not) where their county is actually located on a map and different watches/warnings/advisories might overlap, making it harder to interpret a map.  Personally, I prefer the text pages to the maps that I see on the national HD local forecast.

There isn't a need to post a pic on every little thing.

But it makes the forum look so pretty!  :thrilled:
