Why have a ranking?
Why not have a ranking?
It's really pointless.  It adds no value to the forum.

But does it detract?  In my opinion, no.  In fact, the ratings give me an estimate as to how active a member is in the forum, and that's important for determining how seriously to take what I read.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Re: Alexandra Steele Let Go

The only two things this network has in common with its past are its name and the local forecasts.  I just want to scream my lungs out at how The Weather Channel has gone so far downhill from where it once was.  Honestly, NBC would have done better keeping WeatherPlus and shutting down The Weather Channel, at least allowing TWC to keep some glory and dignity.

I've noticed The Weather Channel has been timings its dismissals around anniversaries, etc.  Are they deliberately trying to rub salt into the wounds they've inflicted?

At this rate, The Weather Channel's OCMs will be fresh out of college, the ink on their diplomas barely dry.  The network seems to be saying that the people with experience can work behind the scenes, so long as they don't have enough seniority to actually make a decent amount in payroll, and the on-camera folk must be young, perky, and attractive, and who cares about anything else.

I just had a thought - in this day and age, probably even the great John Hope would have faced the chopping block by now and have been fired, or had his contract "not renewed."  That's how bad I think things have gotten.

I don't think this is an error. ;) Since the forums are now here, I think Matt discontinued the link to the old TWCC forums.

It's been quite a while since I've seen Stephanie Tanner.  :)

Just for the record, Alexandra's bio page is still available on the TWC website:

The Weather Channel has developed an MTV mentality... and it is sickening.  Youth and appearance have taken precedence over knowledge of weather and a pleasant television manner.

LDLs don't always have ads.  Honestly, I prefer them when they don't.  Some of those ads get SO distracting.  I do appreciate radars and other maps in the corner of the screen as necessary, as we've seen with landfalling tropical cyclones.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Nicole
« on: September 29, 2010, 06:07:49 PM »
I'm really puzzled with what happened here:  Tropical Depression #16 was upgraded to Tropical Storm Nicole earlier today at 11 AM EDT with winds of 40 mph.  Nicole was over Cuba during the upgrade as the center had relocated over land.  After it emerged into open waters north of Cuba, the center of circulation became elongated and untrackable as it approached the frontal zone off the East Coast.  NHC has issued the last advisory for Nicole at 5 PM EDT.  It really makes me wonder if this system should have ever been declared anything in the first place.

Certainly.  Why would the National Hurricane Center ignore a storm based on the length it was active, which, by the way, is impossible to accurately predict ahead of time?

The storm did make landfall (as a tropical depression) in Cuba, and its effects were felt throughout Florida, the Bahamas, and elsewhere.  The fact that the storm didn't complete a month-long marathon trek across the Atlantic doesn't mean it should have been paid any less attention.
