Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

This evening on Open Mike, Mike Bettes was getting a little snotty and sarcastic about people refusing to move their cars during a snow emergency. :P

But he made a good point.  It probably is true that those who refuse to move their cars are also the same people who complain that snow removal takes so long.

It's a very different network.  I started regularly watching The Weather Channel in 1988, and it more or less maintained its continuity through the early 2000s.  Since then, though, changes have been taking place at a dizzying pace, and many of these changes have been utterly incomprehensible.

I truly miss the network as it once was.

Diane Sawyer goes by her middle name.  Not sure what her first one is.

There are so many technical issues at the headends that some headends may never get the HD STAR.

That's not even remotely fair.  And what about the supposed rule that all headends are supposed to have a Star?  As I said, the seperate SD and HD feeds will have to end eventually, unless U.S. broadcasters think they can keep up dual feeds forever.

There is no guarantee that any headend will get the IS2. It is a luxury item in the cable world and up to the individual/regional company to pick it up.

So why are headends required to have an SD star, but not an HD one?  Or is even that requirement gone?

I suppose that when TWC stops broadcasting separate SD and HD feeds (whenever that will be), then the HD will be made mandatory?

This morning the SD IntelliStar in my area (#22087) doesn't display.  We see the national feed LDL and the national feed local forecast.

I wish there was a timeframe to look forward to for a Rollout.
But it is being rolled out

At this rate, the members of this forum still in high school will be grandparents by the time the whole country has access to one, but, yes, you are technically right - it is being rolled out!

That's a sad article.  Marny Stanier was always one of my favorites.

Great videos, Mark! However, I notice a BIG problem: the warning crawl is covering up some of the information on the LDL.

It's that way with the large LDL on the SD feed, too.

Comparing the HD and SD warning crawls, I think the HD is far less intrusive.  As for "BIG problem," I think it qualifies as a minor inconvenience, not as a "BIG problem."  Do you expect them to invest the time, effort, and money to completely reformat the LDL for a warning crawl which appears a small fraction of the total amount of time the LDL is shown?

Thanks!

I was wondering what the alert crawls would look like.

This would have been more appropriate in the general tropical discussion thread.
But now it's confusing because there's a poll in the thread.
I've removed the poll and changed the subject titles so that everything is now fully merged.  Anyone can continue the discussion about if this season is finally over here.

And the purpose of this exercise was...?  If I'm not meant to make polls, then please just tell me.  I made a poll, it got moved, people didn't like the move, and now it's gone.  I'm entitled to be a little unhappy.

What's that one song that's been played every year?  I Saw Three Ships?

That seems to be on the playlist every year.

SMF 2.0 RC 4 has been released. The forums will be upgraded to this release within the next couple of weeks.

What kinds of changes should we expect?
