*SAGE Endec

Aren't those illegal, too?

FYI, for anyone who doesn't know....the SAGE Endec is the machine that receives and rebroadcasts the Emergency Alert System over the air.

I can't imagine the FCC would want these in the possession of unlicensed private persons.

How can those totals be considered final?  It's still snowing here.   :dunno:

So basically, the only way to do this is try and get one for the SSC from TWC (which I know will likely not happen in my life) or not get one at all and just save my money and get a SAME ENDEC machine for my other materials?

Above all else, I think you'd be better off acquiring equipment legally.  The Weather Channel doesn't license its WeatherStar products to be used other than at cable headends exclusively for acquiring local forecast information and broadcasting it as part of TWC's programming.  At worst, you could find yourself in some serious legal trouble.

I think you forgot to attach some stuff.  :) (Guess I spoke too soon!)

Well, two weekends ago they forecasted misery and we had clear skies most of the day, and the "storm" amounted to nothing more than isolated flurries here.

Unfortunately, I don't think they're too wrong with this storm like they were with the last one, but I do wonder if their snowfall predictions are a little too high.

Winter Weather / Re: Possible Winter Storm in the south Sunday and Monday

From an outsider's perspective, and considering I've spent my whole life in wintry climates, I find it amazing how quickly the South gets paralyzed due to an amount of snow that wouldn't even register in the North.  Of course, I know that the South isn't used to such snowfall and the infrastructure isn't designed to handle it, but still... it's always struck me as somewhat strange.

If you have this in a streaming video (such as on YouTube) somewhere, I'll be glad to look at it.  However, I don't download videos (or anything) from unfamiliar sources.

Everything Else TWC / Re: What would you do to improve TWC?
« on: January 08, 2011, 03:15:47 PM »
Dish vs. Direct TV... the idea is that a major satellite provider threatened to stop carrying The Weather Channel, hence the comment that such a move indicates there's a serious problem.  I don't think the name of the carrier is really that important to this discussion.  It could have been phrased "a satellite provider threatened..." and the meaning would have been exactly the same.

Do you really want to be known as a group that splits hairs... then splits those hairs... ad nauseum?   Some discussions do benefit from exact details.  This discussion isn't one of them.

Anyone else just getting the national HD feed? IS2 here in Topeka has been out for hours now.

Maybe they're making modifications to it?  It is still in beta testing, after all.

Local Forecast / Re: Trammell Sightings
« on: January 01, 2011, 03:30:14 PM »
11:50 AM ET. Mic fail on Weekend Now prompted Trammell and emergency feed.

Wow.  I remember an issue 20 years ago with Bill Keneally and Marc Mancuso with microphones not working... but they just rolled with it and did the best they could until the next commercial break and local forecast.  Back then, there were only two choices for an "emergency feed": a textual Travel Cities Forecast or a black screen, and they certainly tried to avoid that unless there was literally no other choice.

These days, it seems that they're much more comfortable going to an emergency feed, or the number of technical problems has vastly increased. :dunno:

yes you are right and  any predictions could be wrong they could forecast what they are now and all the way until the 30th of November and not one hurricane form in the Atlantic or they could forecast this and 100 hurricanes form in the Atlantic now im sure there will be hurricanes just saying we dont know what the season is going to hold

Wow - I should have gotten you a period key for your keyboard for Christmas!

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Topic
« on: December 30, 2010, 10:34:09 PM »
i just don't have the "Traffic" like most of the city locations.

The Weather Channel didn't renew its contract with Traffic Pulse, so no one has the traffic reports on the local forecast or on Weatherscan anymore.

One of my favorite quotes came from an MSNBC host (pre-TWC purchase) that said "When Jim Cantore comes to your town, pack up the stationwagon and get the hell out!"

Way too early to make anything but the vaguest of predictions right now.
