Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Don

Sad for Texas - they really needed the rain, and usually a tropical cyclone is the usual, though rare, relief from such a drought.  It's amazing how quickly the storm just disintegrated as it made landfall.  TWC is showing the satellite now - it all but disappeared!!  They just switched to the radar in the background - there's just nothing left of this storm.

I think Don has, at the absolute most, two advisories left, and that includes an intermediate, though, at the rate this storm's falling apart, the next advisory could easily be its last.

Am I the only one who finds it impossible to read yellow text in here?

but when any significant weather event takes place, they can prove of vital importance, conveying information that otherwise wouldn't be available.

with the current Statement feature being added to the Star's the Text-Based forecast in the 36hr and 48hr format would no longer be needed.

Again, I disagree.  Two lines of text can't possibly take the place of a detailed narrative.

It's about time.  First time in over a month I have seen them preempt their precious programming. <_<

They won't preempt for a tornado outbreak, but they will for a minor tropical storm.  Go figure.

I disagree.  The text-based local forecast can provide much more information than can be provided on regional/metro maps or in the 7-day forecast.  On days when it's just going to be sunny and pleasant, maybe they can seem superfluous, but when any significant weather event takes place, they can prove of vital importance, conveying information that otherwise wouldn't be available.

Last night during the 10 PM ET segment of WCL, the inset satellite which was supposed to be showing a satellite view of Tropical Storm Don was showing a Windows XP screensaver.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha!  I wish I had seen that!  :rofl2:

Frankly, I think the only time it would even be appropriate to "wish" for an extremely strong tropical cyclone would be if it remained entirely in the middle of the ocean, away from land... but then we'd be getting into debates over whether it should or should not be named.  <sigh>

It's a very good point - though.  Professionalism requires looking at the data and using one's experience, not giving into desires.

I seem to notice some kind of hurricane bloodlust in this forum... predicting that every storm or potential storm will end up becoming much stronger than it actually is/will be.

I don't like how the LDL's background changes from blue to red, but the box containing the weather information is still so dark - it fits in better with the blue background.

Totally doubt that there's going to be a Law & Order-like show. Maaaaybe some sort of a "Forensic weather" show, since meteorology also affects forensics...I wouldn't be surprised if they did that.

We don't have to give them ideas...  :censored3:

Let's not forget a childrens cartoon weather show, a game show and Law and Order. Maybe some adult late night programming too :)

I can honestly imagine everything but Law and Order:)

Thanks for the change!  It looks great, especially now that there's far less empty space than before.

Flagler Beach shows current conditions, but on the forecast maps, it's blank.

While on another weather forum, there were some members reporting that hurricane hunters were finding a pressure as low as 996mb That's quite a significant drop from what it is right now if it turns out to be right around the center.

It will be interesting to see what the 11:00 (ET) advisory is.  Given the environment that Don's in, I doubt that it's managed to strengthen to 996 mb.
