Everything Else TWC / Re: Nicole Mitchell sues The Weather Channel
« on: June 05, 2012, 12:30:09 PM »
After watching that video, I'd be very interested to know who the co-worker harassing Nicole was.  It sounded like he/she would have been an OCM.  (This is more of a rhetorical question, since I know it shouldn't be discussed publicly.)

Also (I may sound stupid here), but what is Nicole looking for as a result of this case if she wins?  One of the guys in the video kept saying he wanted TWC to "do the right thing" but didn't specify exactly what that was.  Does Nicole want more money?  Does she want TWC to cancel the Hurricane Hunters series, or re-edit it with her included (I don't think this will be easy)?  Or does she just want the public to be aware of the issue so that TWC can issue a public apology and treat those in the service with more respect in the future?

I assume that Nicole's winning will definitely lead to the third circumstance, but it may also involve circumstance 1 and/or 2.

Thank you, Lightning, for posting the video and Ana for posting that article from Nicole's Facebook.

As IceManNYR said, we are only seeing on side of the story, and according to a news report on FOX 5 Atlanta (link below), TWC claims that some of what she is saying is inaccurate (they didn't specify exactly what yet).  But I really wish her the best on this case, and hope she does win, as I think it is very valid.  I am very, very upset with TWC and almost screamed when I realized that they got rid of her because she was honoring her commitment in the Hurricane Hunters service but then have the nerve to air a long-form program about the Hurricane Hunters (obviously without her in it). <_<

Also, HERE is the link to that news story and video I saw on Atlanta's FOX 5 network.  Hopefully the link hasn't changed to another story yet.  But getting her hair done???  You've have got to be kidding me.

So it could be a browser issue for me (though I have tried viewing on several), but I have noticed that within the past week or so the weather backgrounds indicating the current condition on a city's "Right Now" page have vanished.  Has anyone else noticed this?  If so, that's really too bad, especially considering this is one thing they "bragged" about on releasing the new site.  Maybe too many people complained that they were distracting.

TWC Today News / Re: New Global Moderator!

Oh my gosh, this thread has been open for less than a day, and I can already see it going downhill.  Eric, we'll no longer be posting any mod. issues in public.  Thank you for your concern.  I'm pretty sure that's not why this thread was created anyway.

But let me just say this.  For any of you who think we have too many admins or mods, let me tell you: there is a lot more work involved in running these forums than you may think, and with many of our present admins inactive, Martin felt that this was an important decision to be made.  Please do not focus too much on the number of admins/mods we have as much as the quality of the work being performed.  Thanks. :)

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone! :)  I will try to do my best to keep this forum running smoothly.

I was actually undertaking a ton of workload here for the past few months and needed some help.
Wow, that's really surprising. I would think that with a small amount of posts and minimal issues, running this forum would be pretty easy.

Trust me, Matt, from all that Patrick has described to me, and even a little from what I've seen, it's a lot more work than you think. ;)

I remember when MSNBC used to have news in the primetime hours, but then they eliminated it in favor of talk shows and long-form. Headline News used to have news 24/7, but then they filled primetime with all talk shows.

I expect the same thing to happen when TWC expands long-form to three hours. Weather Center Live might disappear, and all live programming during primetime might cease. Live shows will probably only air from 4AM - 5 PM except for hurricane coverage and select severe weather outbreaks.

I would have to say that this change is a result of no one really watching live programming on TWC during prime time hours anymore.  In the early evening, they're probably watching their local news, and then at night, they're watching whatever exciting show is on USA, TBS, TNT, A&E, etc.  So I guess TWC feels they can compete better if they also show long-form at this time.

Eric and Jen started at 5:30am this morning, although still on First Outlook.
Could TWC be cutting time on WUWA??????

The schedule hasn't been normal lately, so I would answer this with a "no."  Because, according to IceManNYR, there was an hour-and-a-half of WUWA on Monday.

74°F Thunder

We're getting our own share of rain here.  And the sky keeps looking different every hour.  About a couple of hours ago, it was very dark.  Then the sun came out, and now it's dark again. :P

EDIT: Now the sun is out, and it's raining!  I can't see a rainbow, though. :hmm:

From what I saw of TWC's coverage tonight, I was very disappointed that they only seemed to focus on the NE.  There were other storms in the Plains, but, oh yeah, the NE always takes predecence.

Programming and Graphics / Re: 2012 Hurricane Season Grpahics
« on: May 27, 2012, 06:05:36 PM »
It amazes me how TWC feels the need to update their tropical graphics every year.

However, I am currently not seeing these new graphics (on weather.com, that is).  The title bars are the same, anyway.

719
Wow, I thought Dr. Knabb was gone already, considering Bryan Norcross did all of the updates on Beryl (from the time I watched TWC).

720
Hmmm...I was wondering when (if) the full transition to a tropical storm was ever going to be made. :P  65 MPH...wow, that is quite a bit stronger than predicted.  I only remember seeing 50 MPH as the forecasted top speed yesterday.
