General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

I'll be away with my family for a week starting on Monday.  I really needed this break after a very busy stretch in work, which I at least will receive recognition for helping out with issuing the warnings during the June 13, 2013 derecho here.  Hope all of you are doing well, and I'll see you when I get back!
At least you get recognition at your workplace. Something I don't receive. And there are others who don't work as hard as I do who do get awards and promotions to higher paying positions.
You haven't been there for too long to need to worry as of yet.

Lately I've been having problems installing updates on my laptop. There is one particular update that always fails to install successfully, whether it's automatic when I shut my laptop down or if I install it manually. I provided a screenshot to show the update that fails every time:

I tried just about every solution I could possibly find on the web, but with no luck  :(   Anybody have an idea on what I should next to get the update to install successfully?  :dunno:

BTW, my system is a Windows 7 Home Premium x64-based PC, if this is helpful.
That is Windows 7 Service Pack 1. You may have to download it manually and try to install it manually. I know of a lot of people who are having and have had issues installing the service pack.

My mom passed away Sunday. She was pronounced dead at 19:19 EDT, however she may have passed earlier than that. I'm going to be busy with a lot of responsibilities I have to take care of, so I do apologize in advance if I don't get to messages right away or seem snippy. RIP mom .... She is single with no kids my friend
She's not even married?
She was pretty damn near close to being engaged at one point but it's been a number of years.

The Weather Channel's Official 2013 Hurricane Season Forecast
The fact that Bryan Norcross is shouting/screaming the forecast is rather annoying.

My Norton subscription expires in a week and I'm debating if it's worth spending the extra $60 to renew it. Has anyone tried Microsoft security essentials? Is it any good especially on Windows 8?
McAfee, while in some cases is more expensive than Norton, is definitely better. Even Avast, which is free, is worth trying.
I would stay away from McAfee and Norton products all together. Microsoft Security Essentials is 100% unnecessary on Windows 8, because all the features are integrated in the Windows Defender program on Windows 8. I've personally had no issues with it, but it's to each his own. I use NOD32 and I have no issues with it, although it's not free.

My goodness.

After 690273976937402937 attempts to retrieve my password (because apparently I forgot the answer to my secret question, how could I forget the nickname of my best friend oh. my. god) I guess....I've made my return to the place where I actually grew up.

So yeah, I'm back for the 63902739473rd time. hi.

ps. Mike...PLEASE tell me you're a brony.
Contact an administrator on the boards next time, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help next time. :-)

The 7 Day Forecast never covers 7 Days. Why can't they just call it the weekly forecast?
There have been times, although not as often as I would like, where they have made it through the 7 days in the forecast.....

I was admitted to the hospital Thursday afternoon for a very serious matter. I'm ok for right now, and I'm back home, but the official diagnosis has yet to be made.  :(

Well I took the plunge last week, and purchased an iPhone 5... It's a 16GB White iPhone 5 via Verizon Wireless.... So far, I have to say I'm happy with the improved speed and stability.....

I don't like the updated 7 Day Forecast graphics.
The whole fake CGI wall with the lights at the bottom is cheesy and the angle of the map is annoying as is that light flare on the top left. The ocean color is creepy.

Yuck!   I don't like those horrible graphics either  <_<
IIRC, didn't they used to do angled maps back in the day of First Outlook? I'm almost intrigued that they want to try to bring it back; however, I don't feel it's being properly executed.

TWC was using a text scroll on the first forecast segment for each block of Weekend View.
Was this a test or is it going to be used regularly?

I like the text scroll. They should use it all the time like most cable news channels do.
waaaaaaay too fucking much going on in that clip. If they're going to have a crawl, it needs to be bigger and they need to get rid of the airport travel in the lower left as well.

Which is more easier: Computer Science or Information Technology? I am not majoring in either fields but I thought it was food for thought anyways.
You would have to compare the course requirements for both majors to be able to answer that question.
