Everything Else TWC / TWC - Analog to Digital Transition in 2013
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:56:09 PM »
According to weatheraffiliate.com, The Weather Channel will be transitioning their analog feed to digital this year.

February 5, 2013

The Weather Channel is migrating from analog to digital in 2013!

We are currently testing our analog signal and if you take the analog feed and are experiencing an interruption in service, you must confirm that your headend is active.

Please contact Star Support immediately at 1-800-554-xxxx or email {email address}@weather.com

Thank you - The Weather Channel

I wonder how much this will affect the STAR's, if at all? Also, I wonder if there will be any disruptions during the conversion?

Local Forecast / Weather Star 4000 Hardware
« on: January 05, 2013, 10:43:17 AM »
I recently acquired a Weather Star 4000 from ebay. Here are a few pictures I took of the unit, both exterior and interior. From what I understand, since the 4000 has no hard drives, (unlike the XL), it downloads it's graphics via satellite connection to the AMC 11.

General Discussion / Michigan Weatherman Sonny Eliot Dies at 91
« on: November 16, 2012, 09:48:35 PM »
Sonny Eliot, a famous weatherman in Michigan, well known for his humorous forecasting tactics, has died at the age of 91, and just a few weeks before his 92nd birthday.
Sonny was a veteran of World War II, who soon after the war began a career in broadcast meteorology. Throughout the years, he worked at various television stations in Detroit, MI, before retiring in the 80's (I believe.) After he retired from television broadcasting, he forecasted for radio station WWJ 950 AM out of Detroit until 2010, after 60 years in broadcasting. He will be dearly missed by the many people that loved watching or listening to his forecasts.

Here's a couple tributes from local news stations:

Local Forecast / Hit Songs on LOT8's Playlists
« on: December 29, 2011, 11:13:59 AM »
This is a topic to list different LOT8's tunes that were once hit songs in the mainstream music world.

I'll start...

Papa Was A Rollin' Stone - The Temptations became a #1 song in the US for one week (Nov. 26-Dec. 2, 1972), and was the #100 song of 1973 in the US as well.

Local Forecast / Top 10 TWC Songs of 2011
« on: December 03, 2011, 11:57:44 AM »
I've complied a list of the top 10 TWC songs of 2011, based on the ''Best:'' songs as rated by some TWCT members on each playlist. There were MANY ties, so I've also attached a poll with the 10 songs so that I could change the order of the songs if needed based on second thoughts. Also, you can post your personal Top 10.

Here is the list:

1.- Timothy Drury - Night Drive

2.- Riders of the Ancient Winds - Craig Chaquico

3.- Brian O'Neal - Cocomatic

4.- Footsteps - 7and5

5.- Craig Chaquico - Tribal Runner

6.- Breathe In - 7and5

7.- Cafe Carnival - Craig Chaquico

8.- Stanley Turrentine - Side Steppin'

9.- Supernova - Ryan Farish

10.- Paul Taylor - Horizon

Other than skirting by Bermuda... this looks like a fish storm.

It will likely weaken to a depression over the next 48 hours.

Hello, STAR Team.

My almanac reporting site has been Ypsilanti for about the past 7-10 days. Ypsilanti is a town about 50 miles to my northwest. The almanac reporting site should be Monroe (or Custer Airport). Can you fix this issue?

STAR ID: 23527

Thank you very much for your time and consideration,

General Weather Chat / Largest Hailstone that you Observed
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:29:50 PM »
I haven't seen this question on the forums, so I thought I'd add it.

The largest hailstones that I ever observed was on June 19, 2006. Penny to nickel sized hail fell outside my window, with quarter size hail reported about 1/2 mile south of me (by another spotter).

Ever since late May 2010, when my IntelliStar went out briefly, my Station ID screen has been blank, except for the background and a small period in the upper right corner. I was wondering if you could fix this issue.
