Actually, I don't think it's that bad. It's beyond what I had expected. Though, they could make the radar bigger.
I actually think it looks better than the actual IntelliStar. :P

Apps like this have been in development for years and years, just not TV ready. It's very hard to develop an app to work properly with so many different STB types and models.

They should've made the current IntelliStars to look like that!

Anyways, it's about time that a Satellite TV company has started something like this. This may give hotels/suites that do cable by DirecTV an advantage.

This is gonna be interesting.

So wait...this won't activate automatically on the 8s?

From what I understand, no. There will be a "popup" asking to to press a button to start seeing local conditions.

You have got to be damn well kidding me.  They have the technology to send a message, but not to remote start an app?  Tremendous.

I think it was Dish's call to have it that way, if I'm not mistaken.

Would it ever be possible to show local forecasts using the same way satellite companies present local channels?

Boneheaded move of ever if that was/is the case.  If it was all automatic, even in this less-than-perfect state, they could have pimped this on their commercials, and probably gotten a ton more subscribers.

Yes, I know of a lot of people holding onto Comcast for the sole reason now of a true Local.  It used to be because you didn't get Local channels, too.  Now it's just a Local on the 8s.

Well, of course it could. Would they want to do this? No. That's a lot of precious space that could be taken up by other channels. Could they do something on a regional basis? Absolutely. I don't know if they would want to, though. That would be a great decision to make it a bit more local, but It will probably never, ever, happen.

This has been planned ever since TWC announced it would be in HD, and ihas been discussed either here and/or TWC Classics.

How would you (or I for that matter) know what's being discussed at TWCC?
