It doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary, and frankly if this is all they did, I'll be pretty upset.

But, it sure wants you to watch HURRICANE COVERAGE ON THE WEATHER CHANNEL YOUR HURRICANE AUTHORITY, doesn't it?

BTW, as for the whole hotel issue; they don't use DirecTV remotes, and without those, I don't think there's going to be any way to make this feature work.

...that sums THAT up.  :P

Those shots look nothing like what Tyler posted a few pages back.

Yeah, I believe the only way that it could work for a hotel-like environment is if they had automatically cue on the 8s, without any user-intervention.

Well, I was TOTALLY wrong of the features on the new Local On the 8s... For one, it activates on its own, and well, it works!

Heres a video of it:

Congratulations, TWC, for executing something BRILLIANTLY.

Congratulations, DirecTv, for agreeing to this.

Yep! I actually really like it. One thing I would like changed though, is that they maybe put the name of the city for your zip code because "For ZIP 98001" looks kinda weird. But other than that, I really like it. Finally DirecTV has a "Local on the 8s".

Looks interesting. Thanks for the video, Brandon.

A few comments after seeing the video:

  • The DirecTV IntelliStar is still present because the Station ID test is still present.
  • The flavor lineup for the actual local is a bit odd; you'd think they would have it more like the IntelliStar's flavor lineup.
  • Is the "Local On The 8s" logo bug supposed to appear late like it does?
  • The test looks bit small in some spots.
  • The static radar image could be a bit larger.
  • Is it supposed to end early so we can see the satellite LF radar/satellite lops at the end?
  • What happened to the DirecTV IntelliStar LDL? Was it disabled because of this new local feature?

Meh, it's OK. The transitions are too jumpy plus I am unable to change channels on my DTV receiver once i have TWC on.  I have to turn off the TV , leave the receiver on and change the channels there, then turn the TV back on to get a different channel.

The local forecast is too short. There should be an LDL and the duration should last for the entire 2 minutes.

Plus, I'm getting weather for Cherry Hill NJ, Ardmore and Bensalem, PA. None for Atlantic City...

UPDATE: It's gone. Now the regular Satellite LF w/o the LDL is here

I think they did disable the LDL during the forecast because of the new feature. And I think the LF ends early because they want you to see the animated radars.
