These people needs to wake up and realize it's their changes that's causing this...ie OCM firings, programming changes. 80% approval rating up my ass. I wish he would show some proof.

How sad for Darby to let Long Time TWC fans down like this, this is another reason Rock will ultimately end TWC for good.

Huh.  I call BS.  So people were so upset about the music that they got their weather info from somewhere else?  That's hilarious.

Kinda changing the subject, but I thought this qoute on NBC's managment over TWC was interesting, sounds like it was a trap to make sure TWC didn't try buying themselves out of NBC.

Um, if they were pulling down ratings, then why did TWC create two CD's? The sales of those CD's actually reached near the top of the charts.

I'm very very VERY pissed about Geoffrey Darby doing this. How dare he did this. In fact, he is putting more and more rock, I predict that very soon he may put hip hop and crank music. To us TWC Fans, I take it as an insult. This is not good. So he's the mastermind behind this. Shoot!!!!!!

Again, there is something you guys keep forgetting to realize... We are just a tiny portion of the userbase of TWC. Most people who watch TWC are just in it for the weather, and don't care about the music on the local forecast, just as long as they get their weather. Management has every right to do what they wish to the channel, it's THEIRS.

What a fuckup. Well, in business, the dumb people who make the dumb decisions usually come out on top.

Ratings + TWC. WTF? It's the weather, for christ's sake. Rock music does not work, you'd think they'd know that.

Either way, I don't think it will last long. People will get annoyed pretty fast.

Smooth jazz had to have been popular if they released those CD's. I seriously doubt they released them just for TWC Today members, nor do I think smooth jazz suddenly got unpopular on TWC within less than a year's time.

They also said they are trying to attract a "young audience." Well, most "young" people I know like rap/hip-hop or otherwise modern music, not classic rock or ambient space music.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing Smooth Jazz can suffer that badly in just a few months. Even the sudden 80% satisfaction rate is a little puzzling. Some of the soft rock songs played from last month and this month like "Gut Feeling" by Devo and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd have played before, if people were requesting for these changes or more of these sock rock songs shouldn't they have been done years ago well before now?

It's not going to last long, that 80% will drop soon. Many people in my family were annoyed hearing rock on the LF..it got too distracting for them.

The drippy smooth jazz that for years has played in the background of the Atlanta-based Weather Channel’s “Local On the 8s” segments has been replaced with soft rock songs people can actually hum instead of going numb.
Have they ever actually listened to the music? You can hum most of it. And they think people won't go "numb" listening to soft rock? Maybe I'm missing something here, but I think most find soft rock more sleepy than jazz.

Quote
“I think we’ve been doing an injustice to our viewers playing, for the lack of a better word, elevator music on the segments for all these years,” Geoffrey Darby, the cable network’s new executive vice president of programming, said Thursday.
Translation - he hates jazz and wants to play the music he likes. I don't blame you Jeffy, but don't kid youself by saying that you're doing this for "ratings."

Quote
...which wasn’t great for the audience or the network’s advertisers who prefer viewers who are awake.
Unless they interviewed people that were drunk, I doubt any viewers actually fell asleep when the local forecast came on.

I can’t believe I just heard Devo on the Weather Channel — that is so cool.
Devo was played in the summer of 1990 too...and they quickly dropped it.

Good point, Matt. If this guy is lying that he's doing this for ratings when he really just wants to do this because he *likes* rock music, then he might as well step down.
