At :48, I saw that my STAR displayed the tides screen in place of the marine forecast screen

Is the tides product supposed to be seen during 60-second flavors for coastal STARs?

Here we only see the Marine Page on the 60 second.

Me too here in Long Beach/Astoria. The only time I ever see the tides screen is only during the 2-minute flavors which happens during the morning hours, so I'm guessing that the appearance of that particular screen on the 60-second flavor must a rare sight to see  :hmm:

What is so annoying to me is during long-form programming, depending on what show is on, they'll have a "local on the 8s" by showing the LDL bar, but no radar, like the local on the 8s shows. Just the normal LDL bar that you see when OCMs are reporting the weather like during "Day Planner". The LDL bar during long-form programming is no local on the 8s!

So they don't feed data to 33% LDL anymore?

My first thought was maybe TWC will bring that LDL back for the Local on the 8's for shows that only the LDL is used. Like Lightning said, maybe they realize a radar is important for a local forecast. Interesting to see. Thanks!

I would think the Data was missing for a reason.

Talked with someone from TWC and they said the 33% LDL was showing by mistake and the Star has since been rebooted.

I just noticed something... the new (meaning newer than the DirecTV local forecast) national local forecast LDL must be extremely annoying (not to mention totally useless) to viewers now, being visible just from Sacremento to Washington, D.C.

I never understood why they don't extend the DirecTV forecast out by another several seconds just to fill the entire local forecast segment.  Cable viewers don't get national radar and satellite views, so I don't know why the DirecTV viewers have to.

Personally, I like the idea, since the DirecTV LF's radar is almost impossible to see...

You have to understand that this product was developed back in 2008, and the day prior to its release, the (at the time) IntelliStar-generated LDL stopped appearing on the LFs, and when the LF slides finished, the last product was a view of the satellite/radar for the last 3 hours covering 4 regions of the nation. As for the newer satellite LF, you also have to know that DISH customers see the national forecast at all times, so having conditions for 46 major cities across the states seems reasonable.

I never understood why they don't extend the DirecTV forecast out by another several seconds just to fill the entire local forecast segment.  Cable viewers don't get national radar and satellite views, so I don't know why the DirecTV viewers have to.
I absolutely agree with you. In fact, before it came out (but the news was made), I was expecting to see a similar lineup of that to the IntelliStar (such as local radar and air quality). As for the radar, I really think there could be both a national and a local radar screen. However, the only radar images existent in TWC's database are completely watermarked and I doubt TWC would want to publish their local radar images ("Classic map" on weather.com) without watermark.

There was a problem withthe text based forecast on my IntelliStar, (may have been a HiRAD outage) the narration said "our local forecast", the weather animation the right side was missing on all 3 slides for today, tonight, and Friday and the weather information under each daypart for example was one sentence.

Today
Sunny skies.

Same thing happened in my Central Park with an incomplete Local Forecast.

I just posted a similar thing in the blooper thread.  The Intellistar 2 showed (in the text-based, not primarily-picture, format) a one-sentence forecast for all three slides - just the weather conditions, no temperature, wind, or chance of precipitation.  The animation was accurate, but there was no narration due to time.

If only the narration could stay that way, gives the LF an XL feel when you don't have to listen to him blab on and on.
