Say hello to Tropical Depression #10 that just formed in the Gulf of Mexico at 11 PM EDT with winds of 30 mph.  It might become a tropical storm before reaching the Mexican coastline, which is under a tropical storm warning now.



Update:  It's now up to 35 mph as of 2 AM EDT.

Wherever the storm makes landfall it would be ideal if moisture from the storms remnants could work its' way into the mid Atlantic region. It's been really dry here since late July and we could sure use the rain.

I was hoping it comes our way too because we could use a good downpour of rain, it's been dry for a while now another sign of a stupid La Nina coming in.

Not really. Hermine is now a tropical storm with sustained winds of 50 mph and *might* become a hurricane before it makes landfall tonight (you know what, never mind. )

I agree. Its not looking like anything major. Biggest impact will be rainfall. It popped up at the end of a front I believe. Its been around for a few dags but only recently got its act together.

Yes, it did originate from the tail end of a front.  The winds were 65 mph at landfall, but Hermine will be weakening from here.  It'll certainly be a flood threat for Mexico and Texas over the next few days.

Hermine appears to have somewhat of an eye on the radar, even though it's only a tropical storm.

It was only a few miles in diameter. A very very tight circulation.

Tropical Storm Hermine just a small threat to the US?

Not really. This is the first time in awhile since I remember this much flooding in the DFW metroplex. We got quite a bit of rain from Hurricane Alex back in June, but I don't know if it was this much.
