Major East Coast Storm?

Sooo...as alot of us probably know, it looks like a major winter storm could be shaping up for tomorrow and Monday. Currently it looks as though some areas could see as much as a foot or more of snow, including some of the major cities. At this point the further east you go, the more snow is expected, with the most expected generally east of the I-95 corridor. But the path of the storm is still uncertain, and if it tracks closer to the shore those heavier amounts will shift further west, resulting in as much as a foot+ of snow across a good chunk of the eastern seaboard.

This could definitely be the biggest storm many of us have seen this winter. It looks like winter is going to try and go out with a bang.

The track of the upper-level low and the associated surface low will determine everything for this East Coast storm.  Winter storm watches are already in effect in a line from northern Georgia to southern Maine.  The critical time for this storm will be Sunday night as that's when the best chance for snow exists according to the latest computer models, so stay tuned for updates as March wants to enter in like a lion!

NAM and GFS are painting a nice picture. The 00nz runs shows much more snow for my area than earlier. TWC predictions earlier seems ridiculous but now seem to fit in just nice.


The latest models also indicate it will strengthen and stay closer to the coast meaning more snow

If that's the case then I think those snowfall estimates are very low.

It looks like we should focus along I-95 between Washington, DC and Boston, MA based on these model runs.  I can definitely see 6-12" of snow in this corridor, which easily warrants the issuance of winter storm watches.  If there's more moisture available as the storm spins up, then 12"+ is possible in isolated areas.  It's definitely going to be a mess on Monday morning.

Through the day the models have shifted a little east and there also seems to be the threat of dry air entering into the Richmond, VA area but from all accounts it looks that they will get a decent amount before that happens.

According to that model most of the big cities are looking at at least 8-10 inches.

Winter Storm Watches have already been issued here in MD and will go into effect tomorrow afternoon. Tough by then I expect warnings, not watches.

Local meteorologist and the NWS are staying stingy on predictions after the many false alarms this year in my area.

January we had Winter Storm warnings that closed every area school and we got nothing. Not even a flurry. Winter weather advisory was posted another time with nothing.

As of the latest run EURO is cutting out some of the dry air coming in from the west.

GFS has been fairly good at predicting storms and it has had the least changes these past few days. I would take any model with a grain of salt but all the models seem to be lining up recently
