LOL they could've just produced more money to offset the debt. I realize inflation will result, but so what? Inflation is already rising, regardless of the amount of money being produced so they might as well consider it.

Speak for yourself. I'm not interested in paying $5 for a gallon of milk...unless it comes with a raise at work. :)

Here's another article, explaining that the cuts proposed are indeed Obama's.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/46430601

John Stossel had an interesting show this week (as he usually does), in which he came to the conclusion (based on what's happening in Greece and what people on the street say about our debt) that we aren't ready to accept cuts. At least not the kind that affect us personally.

But aren't salaries increasing anyways? In NJ, the minimum wage rose from $6.15 in 2006 to $7.25 now , and if the current bill goes through, the minimum wage will raise an extra $1.25 to $8.50.

LOL, he cut our education several years back, and now he wants to make NJ have one of the highest minimum wages in the country?

Not really. Oregon's is $8.80 and Washington's $9.04. Higher salaries would need to be set to offset inflation but I think this isn't pertinent to the topic..

I doubt this is Obama's plan.. it sounds like something that congress would propose

I would think so because I recall not very long ago late last year (probably after Irene) he said he wanted the NWS budget and federal aid for natural disasters to be expanded.
He was lying when he said that.

Please tell me that "lie" wasn't a surprise to you. He's a politician, for god's sake. The only thing they're good at is saying one thing and then making a complete 180 and saying the other. Obama has a ton examples of this, Mitt Romney has a ton more.

Obama needs, as Tavores said, to consider what cuts would benefit the country rather than harm it. NWS is a very tiny dent in the amount of money the government spends, compared to other programs. Speaking of which, SS is already going to break our back within the next 20 years, so why don't we get rid of that? Let's get rid of welfare while we're at it. I, for one, do not like the idea of my money going to someone sucking in paychecks from the government while doing little or no work! Of course, so many more Americans think they are entitled to everything that it isn't gonna happen.  <_<

Not if that's your only proof. Minimum wage is something that's forced upon companies by the government.

As many here know, I'm a believer in small government.

That being said, I think the main purpose of government is to keep people safe, and the NWS does exactly that.

Now, I'm not saying that I totally disagree with the President here.  Like every other government agency, I'm sure there is quite a bit of wasteful spending and some corruption within the NWS.

I remember a few years ago when talk of privatization came up and nearly everybody cried foul.  As long as it's done right, private management of the NWS is not a bad idea.  It would have to be government subsidized so potentially lifesaving weather information will remain free to the general public.

Bring in company A to manage the NWS.  If they do a bad job, fire them and bring in company B to see if they can run it more efficiently.  If not, bring on company C.

REMEMBER: GOVERNMENT IS A MONOPOLY.

They have no competition, and as a result, there really isn't any incentive to do a good job.

I know there are many dedicated government employees, but we've all encountered some who obviously don't give a crap.

President Obama: Under Republicans, our weather forecasts would be less accurate

It just amazes me what this guy will say to get what he wants. He doesn't seem the least bit phased about lying or contradicting himself. Even when he does so in the same speech! Obama is clearly using fear here to get Congress to spend more instead of less. And most people will eat it up because, hey, who doesn't want to know that a hurricane is headed there way!? Yet when Republicans do the same, he cries foul. That being said, doesn't NASA (the program HE cut) launch satellites?

This might be off-key but you people should see this is all by design, an effort to control society going on in slow motion. it is INCREMENTALISM, the primary tactic the elite are using to install the new world order. The budget cuts and other moves are small, but many of them over a long period of time will eventually cause the whole thing to come crashing down. Politicians are the mouthpieces for the CFR and the Trilateral commission who in turn answer to Bilderberg (the head of the global power structure). Obama is a mouthpiece and he is doing what he was told before he secured the nomintation. Its all a rigged game.

Where are you getting the idea that NWS doesn't go a good job with its duties? They have one of the strongest satisfaction ratings among government agencies, so obviously SOME people think they're doing a fine job.

You got it half right. There is no "elite class" trying to establish a NWO to puppeteer Congress. It's money controlling their mouths. Politicians will do whatever the person with the most money wants. It's called lobbyists. It's been going on in Washington for decades.

BUMP and Double Post - does this constitute an automatic ban? :P

An update on the story - looks like Congress finally agreed on something. Great news for NWS.

Ban! :P

It is amazing that an organization as huge and as important as the NWS runs on a budget of 2 million a day. Thats pennies compared to most government run programs
