Somebody needs to tell HD Master that the all of the audio coming from the control room is garbled horribly; it's coming through as nothing but a "static" noise.

Well, they're aware of it now. As of 4:10 CT, the emergency feed is playing on the HD channel during studio segments. At least that still has black pillar boxes!

Now the Trammell music on the emergency feed is completely garbled, and the glimpse of the control room feed at the start of the segment was completely green static with white lines going through it.

Now they just put the stylized pillar boxes up on the emergency feed.

At around 4:24, they went back to the studio feed but without the pillar boxes; at first the audio was still static, but after several seconds, the image on the screen shifted a little, and suddenly the audio was fixed.

The problem came back again at the bottom of the hour when they brought the stylized pillar boxes back. Again, they fixed the problem by removing the pillar boxes and shifting the screen image down. Something's buggy with the new pillar boxes.

On another note, I think the new pillar boxes cover up some of the overscan area. I like seeing as wide of a picture as possible. :(

Things have been screwed up for the start of every segment since then. They always wind up taking off the pillar boxes for a second and then putting them back on; everything runs smoothly after that for the rest of the segment.

At the start of the 5 PM CT segment, however, TWC did something I've never seen them do before; they started running the teaser in stretch-o-vision for a few seconds *with* the pillar boxes in place; then they fixed the image and brought it back to its proper pillar boxed format.

I don't notice any difference on my TV in regards to pillar boxes on my cable feed of The Weather Channel.  I watch it through the video connection "Colorstream HD" on my HD set. This is where I can watch both SD and HD feeds of channels without having to flip from one video source to another and get the SD channels as they are and the HD channels in HD.

There's a small difference. When they brought the blue pillar boxes back up after they had them down for technical difficulties, you could see a small portion of the text on each side of the radar disappear. Not a huge deal, though.

And so begins the last YWT in SD and the last YWT with the current package. *remembers when this package was drop-dead awesome before they butchered it last summer*

YWT better retool itself for the upcoming HD relaunch.

At 5:27 PM ET, they played a new HD Closed Captioning sponsorship.

I saw that too; I wonder if they'll keep using the current WO music for it just like they still use the 03-05 WC music for the Lot8s sponsorship.

I wonder if that means that A&B will go HD at the same time because they share studios?

Here is another great new article. It was published this morning in the very reputable Broadcasting & Cable
magazine about The Weather Channel's new HD studio set to debut on Monday at 7:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time.

Definitely check out a treat for us TWC fans (and junkies) where you can watch a preview of our favorite OCMs
in rehearsals! See the video clip.

Expect this to be a part of a serious blog entry of mine on this story sometime between now and
the end of this weekend.
