Wow, I think they've covered this more than the Joplin and Tuscaloosa tornadoes! :P

I think after what did happen last year, TWC is going to go a little overboard with their coverage now so more people are away and the number of fatalities (hopefully) decrease. ;)

Two more days and Bright House is rumored to introduce the HD feed.  However, I've found nothing about it on Bright House's webpage or anywhere else online, with the exception of reports saying "the first quarter of 2012."  Well, it is already the first quarter of 2012.  :)

I don't think they're going overboard with it at all. It's not like they're in red mode right now where that's the only focus today, they are still doing business as usual with the weekly planner, focus forecasts, etc. On top of that, some of the same areas hit hard back in April last year were once again hit this morning so they shouldn't be ignoring this. I would bet they would get some backlash if they acted like nothing had happened.

If it hadn't of been for this cold wedge were in over here, I would have been slammed hard by those same storms that produced the tornadoes in AL.

Why is TWC not pre-empting today?  Is flooding and the possible severe weather for the south not important enough to be covered?  Also, why is the "radiation storm" the top story on weather.com right now?  How does that take predecence over the current weather?

One thing that really frustrates me about TWC is their inconsistency in coverage.  How is this severe weather event less important than the one the other day?  Is it just because it's not going to impact their headquarters in Atlanta or the high-populated northeast?  Or maybe no tornadoes means less coverage?  I'm sorry, but this really aggrivates me. <_<  If anyone can answer my questions, feel free!

Your answer lies right there, there were a lot of tornado warnings flying hot off the printer constantly from the Sunday/Monday event, actual tornadoes were being reported to be on the ground in places like AR and AL and add to that there a PDS Tornado Watch out across parts of the Midsouth.

While not using the studio for most of Weather Center Live they instead using a virtual background set from the green screen for one segment.

I've long been afraid of this. One of our local affiliates after the switch to HD several years ago did a "virtual 3d" studio like what you see above and it looked disastrous. There were cheesy graphics scrolling around, random lights and it just looked dumb. The technology is not there to make an actual realistic virtual studio. I can somewhat understand a local station trying this since they are limited on studio space but with the giant studios TWC has it makes no sense. Give it 5 years and try again.

We are in day two of not using the HD Studio for Day Planner.
On Wednesday the studio was only used for Your Weather Today.
It was not used much during Weather Center Live except for the area with the small podium and palm trees background.
Anyone know what changes or upgrades they are doing in there?

I've noticed they have added a new line to the end of OCM's show intro,
"Live form The Weather Channel Headquarters in Atlanta, this is Day Planner.

This is nothing new with TWC but I don't get why they don't adjust the lighting when it's very dark.
Tonight is the second night the area of the HD studio they are using is very dark.

Just seems odd the lighting is always different. Sometimes the lighting is good then other times it's very dark and they don't seem to adjust the lighting or camera.

Update, they used the HD studio for some of WCL and it's lit very dark tonight.
I hope they fix it for Friday.

The other thing I've noticed since the work on the HD studio started on Wednesday is,
on Weather Center Live they do almost no forecast segments from the green screen.
No 60 second or 7 Day Forecast.
I wonder if this is just a temporary change in format and when the HD studio is back to normal use they will return.

Looks like the Dark Blue Titlebar that debuted in May 2011 is discontinued and replaced by white tilebars that debuted a short while ago. The blue titlebars were only used for Radar until earlier this week. I think, in my opinion, the newer white tilebars are better than the old ones.
