So the progression of alert mode is:

Longform suspension
"Red Mode"
LF suspension
Commercial suspension (as needed)

Found this on TVnewser earlier about The Weather Channel ratings for Hurricane Irene. Thought I'd share.

Another reason why TWC is "The Hurricane Authority." As much as we hate it, I will admit that they do a good job of keeping their ratings high by having long-form during low-weather times and expanded, continuing coverage during major weather events, like Irene.

Meh, it's not too out of the ordinary when they do wall to wall coverage on events like this, they had similar ratings during the April 27th Tornado Outbreak and probably during the Joplin MO tornado too. It's sorta expected that's why they kept showing that promo during Hurricane Irene about how it's good to have millions of friends.

I thought all the networks did a good job with coverage, TWC included.

I'd agree that they did a great job.   Its just that the only time I ever get to watch TWC nowadays is their severe weather coverage and not for any stupid long-form shows. Anyways, TWC did an excellent job. Even on slow and quiet weather days, I still think they should drop the long-form programs.

Carl Parker seems to be doing special reports these days. I like him.
Todd Santos' voice bothers me. He goes from appearing to need to clear his throat to talking REALLY fast. I mute it when he is on or change channels. Seems as if the producers could see this.
Whatever happened to Jonetta Jones. I liked her.

She was seriously injured in a car accident several years ago and, sadly, will not be returning to work.

TWC is has pre empted taped programming for live coverage of the possible tropical storm that could impact the gulf coast and TS Katia in the atlantic.
Carl Parker and Jim Cantore are on.
They are using the clear TWC bug with no LDL except for the local on the 8's.

Wow, they really seem to be hyping this thing. Guess it's so they can brag about being the "Hurricane Authority." I am surprised when you said the LDL is missing. Think it'd be red by now. :P

I believe because of the flood potential most likely, Some models have New Orleans seeing 10-20 inches of rain because of how slow the tropical system moves. HPC has NO seeing nearly 20 inches within the next 5 days. If this becomes "Lee" it'll be pulling an "Allison" only in LA instead of TX this time. I think their biggest concern is levees could fail again. That's an enormous amount of rain for them to swallow at one time.

The Big Picture segment they do now kinda reminds me of the Weather Stories segment they used to do right before the weekly planner back during the live by it era.

EDIT: Did they redo the Satellite LDL? It looks like the blue is darker and the templates that display the weather info look black. It looks much better this way imo.

I think the bar got darkened, however, when I see it on my tuner, it looks like the red templates seen on the red LDL... worth mentioning that HD feed is the same way too
