It's just a theory, we'll have to just wait and see what they do the next 36 hours. Also I'm reading on other forums that Jim Cantore is relocating to NYC now. Can anyone confirm this?

If a Cat 2 does hit NYC (like it could), it's a guarantee we will see a storm alert like we've never seen before.

This is like the first ICHT episode: a Cat 3 hitting NYC. The worst of all, none of our neighbors or friends are even paying attention to the storm. They're too busy planning for the mall or movies this weekend. :rolleyes:

I thought TWC only used "Storm Alert" for major hurricanes (cat. 3 or higher)? :dunno: Although Irene has reached this status, it's expected to weaken before landfall.

As I mentioned before, They can make exceptions. Ike was one of them only a Cat. 2, but it's pressure equated to a Cat. 4 so it was able to cause more damage had it only had a pressure/wind intensity of a Category 2.

I kinda agree with Matt, if there is a "Storm Alert" as we know it as, this may be the most intense one we've seen because of the large area it's going to affect.

Probably won't occur until tomorrow evening at the earliest. Irene's eye wont reach E. NC/Outer Banks until Saturday.

I'd wait until NHC issues hurricane warnings along the coast before checking.  Normally, that's how it worked in the past.

It wouldn't be the strength, it'd be the massive amount of people and property that would be affected.  Nobody really know what will happen to NYC if a Cat 2 hit...flooded subways for weeks?  Wall Street under water?  Skyscrapers with no windows at all?

What kind of coverage is TWC doing now? (I'm sorry, but I don't have access to a TV to watch). I thought they were already in "Red Mode" because of the red LDL and red L3rds I saw earlier. And longform has definetely been pre-empted. Anything else TWC is doing yet to extend their coverage (i.e. less commercials or omitting some LFs)?
