Alright...I sorta take my last post back. Probably because I haven't been following Irene that much until now. Though I have to agree, it's been a while since TWC covered a major hurricane and this could be pretty much it.

I'm very glad to see TWC proactively preempting the longform well in advance of the storm. I've been watching their coverage and it really reminds me of the "classic" days-weather information when you need it without having to wait for the 6:00 news. They have the experts and the technology, it's great to see them using it. Maybe they are overhyping Irene a bit so far in advance, but I'd rather see them do that than ignore it like they did with longform during so many severe tstorm events this summer. Let's hope they keep up the great coverage and also that Irene curves out to sea without hitting land.

TWC has always been good about their coverage on hurricanes. We never seem to have to question that. It's mainly the severe storms/tornadoes in the country that we sometimes have to wonder about, although I admit TWC is getting better with it.

I still miss John Hope.  He was the expert, period.

They were better back in the day.  Sadly, the network lost its way since.

I agree with both of you. Their hurricane coverage just hasn't been the same since Hurricane Katrina (I beleve that was the first hurricane that was covered after the logo change and the first to feature the "Storm Alert" theme music). I too also miss John Hope.

Is "Breaking NOW" supposed to be "Breaking NEWS" on weather.com right now? They may end up changing this before anyone gets to see it.

I don't think it's a typo, I think it's supposed to say "Breaking Now"

Anybody a little surprised Jim is still in the studio tonight? They sent Mike Sidel out to FL (he'll probably be relocated) and Eric out to NC. I figured Jim would be the first or one of the first to be deployed out to a location for Hurricane Irene.

Whats going on with the radar in the corner of the screen? It keeps bobbing up and down and jiggling. It affects part of the LDL they broadcast as well. (Not the part generated by the IS) Its very odd

Someone (maybe Jim or Seidel) will probably be going to the NE.

Steph said at the end of YWT, she's heading to the Outer Banks for Hurricane Irene tomorrow.

She said on her Facebook yesterday "Seriously need to pack, but if you were to place me and Jim Cantore for Hurricane Irene coverage where would you put us & why? The Weather Channel and weather.com"

so Jim is going also.
