A live stream is going on right now on weather.com, but Mike Siedel needs to watch what he's saying...I don't think he knows he's live. :o

This is going to be a silly question, but TWC was never in "Storm Alert" for Alex, were they? :dunno: With the around-the-clock coverage and red L3rds that were used for Alex coverage, it might be hard to tell what a "real" Storm Alert will be, except for the fact that they say "Storm Alert."

TWC uses red lower-thirds for any developing story or coverage for any severe weather, so it's harder to determine when TWC goes into Storm Alert.

When the studio goes red, you'll know it's storm alert.

Very True.  That, and I am sure that they will beat the heck out of "We are in Storm Alert here at The Weather Channel for ...." :D

80% of the day, they seem to use those red lower thirds. That my friend, is abusing them. No need to use them other than for storm alert.

I agree with you, but I don't see this trend changing.  Using those red lower thirds a fair amount does a good job in drawing normal viewers into thinking something important is happening so that they will stay tuned into the shows.

Turn on Fox News, CNN, or MSNBC and see how many flashing red breaking news, right now, developing, etc graphics you get. Red graphics catch your eye and thus help entice people to watch more. I'm not surprised they started doing this.

The only place I don't see Breaking News L3rds red is local news, but even their normal L3rds are red. :P
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

For the first time in what seems like a week, I've spotted a blue L3rd on Weather Center!

I think because it has been a week! At least TWC is still using non-red L3rds.
