I've been gone for most of the day and I was not in the know of what has happened. Let me make this short and simple here while you can read my long version at my blog (great, I'm making this longer. >_>).

1. I'm with Jim. He has the right to be mad.
2. Like I said in my last post in this thread, TWC CLEARLY stated that they were going to preempty their movie night. Once I come back I heard about them playing the movie while there are a dozen tornado warnings (most of then PDS). I mean, what the hell? 3 people died (iirc) because of the tornado outbreak. I blame partially on TWC.
3. Whatever happened to "WHEN SEVERE WEATHER STRIKES, TURN TO THE WEATHER CHANNEL" ? Thats a big LIE.

Right now I see Sam and Paul. Yes there is coverage, and looks like it's commercial free. I'm glad they're covering it. Let's hope they never do this again.  :club:

Jonny, you can have your soapbox now.

Yeah I get home hear on the local news of a tornado outbreak tune into the weather channel to see what's going on and there's a movie.  You'd think with a tornado outbreak they'd get more eyeballs(ratings) than a movie.  I know the local news eats tornado outbreaks up for their news ratings.  You'd think channels like the Weather Channel would benefit the same.  Just my two cents.  Love the forum.

Local newscasts are much more reliable than TWC, imo. TWC doesn't know what their thinking when a huge tornado outbreak is active. A movie is not the solution. That makes the channel ugly.

Yeah your right there.  Though if it's not local they'll give a blurb on the news and after the local news is over with or at least the forecast.  I'll turn over to the weather channel and get the full story.  At least I used too.  I'm telling you with all the channels not sticking to their original formats like TWC. It's really making me thinking about ditching cable/dish and just going all internet and investing in an antenna for the local channels.  If I want to watch movies I got netflix for that.  I pay to see weather on TWC not movies.  Got 50 other channels for that crap.  Thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this severe weather.  Just wish some money grubbing executives at TWC/NBC thought the same.

I figured they reverse dual-fed the movie - everyone's primary was the weather programming and the movie was on dual feed (for let's say CA/AK/HI/etc).

As of 12AM Indiana still had the movie, I think.

Also - y'all notice that they've been using the little LDL the entire time?  Early Weekend View with Alex and Ray even was small.

(Did see Jim go postal on Twitter, too)

So let me ask this...what special coverage DID TWC do last night? <_< Aaron said the coverage ended at 10 PM, but I thought Flick and a Forecast came on at 7 PM.

The first showing of F&AF was pre-empted, even though the OCMs thought both showings were going to be.

Yes, that is correct. When Flick and a Forecast ended at around 12:20 AM EDT last nite, TWC did go into special coverage. However, they kept the Flick and a Forecast schedule. Meaning, they had nonstop coverage, with occasional 5 minute commercial breaks and an LF wherever they feel like placing one in. This ended at 2:26 AM EDT, when the normal schedule of LFs and commercials returned.
TWC in...

E. Lansing: Comcast, Channel 40, STAR ID 22842

You mean... The Weather Channel is actually going to be providing weather reports throughout the evening?  I am shocked!  Whoever heard of such a thing?!
It was only until 10 <_<
Jim Cantore is pissed!!

"I want to apollogize to all of you. I was SEVERELY mislead. Was told we were bagging the "movie" to do what this network was created for." -@JimCantore
I have SO much respect for Jim Cantore.  Good for him for sticking up for the viewers!  ABSOLUTELY rediculous.  While I was not watching TWC last night, I am still outraged that they chose to show an old movie instead of giving coverage to those who needed it most.  Does it surprise me they did this, not really.  I thought TWC would be better than this, though.   Guess not.  :hmm:

Looking at The Weather Channel's facebook page, there are several people who are mad.  Does TWC even read these things?  I would love to know how many people actually watch the movies.

It is just plain sad.

Long-form was pre-empted this afternoon...I guess TWC is trying to make-up for the big mistake they made. <_<

I have a lot of respect for Jim, too. Standing up like that to say how absolutely ridiculous showing a :censored: movie on The Weather Channel takes some bravery. Good job, Jim! :D Wish you could see all our comments right now. :)

he probably wants to see the part when Jim apologized on air. I personally would like to see it as well if someone has it. If not, that's okay.
