Cleveland weather
« on: March 08, 2008, 03:25:19 PM »
THE WEATHER OBSERVATIONS POSTED BELOW AREN'T CURRENT. THEY ARE FROM 90 MINUTES AGO.

Just as I reported for Buffalo late last night, Cleveland is getting pounded by snow and windy this afternoon
as the storm system which is dumping snow on its cold side and rain at the coast moves northeastward through
the Ohio River Valley toward New England.

Temperatures will be 20° below normal today as Cleveland is expected to get between 1½ to 2 feet of snow
before all is said and done. See the National Weather Service statement below as a Winter Storm Warning
is in effect until 4:00 AM tomorrow morning.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS by the National Weather Service in Cleveland on March 8, 2008
A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect until 4:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Sunday morning.

Snow... heavy at times... will continue through this evening.
By the time the snow tapers off tonight, total snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches are expected.
Gusty northerly winds between 20 and 30 MPH will also accompany this storm.
This will lead to near blizzard conditions and significant blowing and drifting of snow.

Secondary roads, roads that have not been plowed and roads exposed to drifting snow will likely be impassible
this afternoon especially near Lake Erie. Local travel restrictions may be in place.

Below is some local coverage of this major winter storm for Cleveland.
All three major airports are either closed or about to close due to the very bad weather conditions.
This includes Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
