I think ALL cable companies are going to eventually end up doing away with analog cable altogether before much longer. Whilst we'll be forced to have digital, I think digital prices may actually fall a little as a result of no longer having the cheaper analog alternative.

It says that effective November 1, a digital converter is included in my current standard cable level. Does this mean they'll automatically send one to my house, or do I still have to call ahead? Also, would I have to pay extra to buy additional boxes for my four TVs?

You need to call ahead to have one set up via truck roll, or you could go down to a Payment center and pick one up. make sure you bring the documentation that says it's free so they don't try to throw hidden charges at you.

Also be proud your area isn't getting affected by Switched Digital Video yet... My area's gonna roll it out sometime in November or December, and I had to pick up a tuning adapter dongle thingy for my TiVo to continue getting those channels since TiVo's are not capable of 2 way RF comminucations, so the adapter does it for me. Luckily, TWC isn't on that list of affected channels.

AMC, Cartoon Network, some leased access channel, and Style is switching to digital here on 10/20. I watch AMC a lot, as well as GSN which was removed about a year or so ago, so I should probably get a converter box.

GSN went digital over a year ago, which pissed me off because I had to get a cablebox then because it was my absolute favorite channel (besides TWC) and I wanted to keep it... the Cablebox still has it as channel 37, however that's a QAM redirect to 179.

Man, that sucks. I hope Comcast in my area woun't move CNN, CNN Headline News, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, ESPN, ESPN2, FSN Midwest, HSN, QVC, and Cable Marketplace Channel 5 (a local genentic weather station that differs from TWC) to the digital tier full time. Of course, it would be alot worse if they dropped the channel off the line-up for good. I also hope they don't drop WEEK (NBC) and WAOE (My Network TV) off the lineup for good. They already removed both the National Geografic Channel and ESPNews off the analog lineup.

Though it was great that they gave us the free upgraded box, it took over a week (and 5 different cable guys to come out) to get the damn thing to work. :censored:

Keep in mind that almost all Comcast techs do not know what they're doing or they just don't care. I, almost 100%, just bypass the tech, use my knowledge, and go down to my local payment center and pick up replacement boxes on my own. I know that everyone here has to have moderate technology knowledge, so what we all should do is bypass the techs who don't know :censored: and hook up these things ourselves and shove it in their faces, lol... Hell, if I lived near by, I'd hook everyone's systems up for them. I like doing that kind of thing :)

Yeah, I'm probably going to pick up some digital coverters on my own and install it myself. I don't have the time and patience to have several inexperienced "professionals" to install it for me and have to wait for a week.

The inexperienced "professionals" arrive, try to make it work, fail, then expect you to sign the form, what I do is I grab the form, I cross out the "work completed" line and mark the "work not done" box and sign the form just so they get in trouble. I know that's an ass move, but it's the truth. I've had to have 5 people come by to get my CableCARDs working on my TiVo and it's still not complete, but I get my channels so I've let it slide for now. They don't know what they're doing 90% of the time. I've had only 2 people come to this house who know what they were doing. One got the CableCARDs working 90%, the other got my line fixed 100% and installed a new line coming into the house. Meh, if I was able to do this myself, I would do it, but that's one thing I'm not allowed to do myself. Stupid inexperienced professionals need to go back to school and relearn this stuff.

Not a chance. A high school diploma is a requirement for a tech position.
