Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: December 08, 2013, 11:12:34 PM »
The whole premise of Weather All The Time is that it's "Weather All The Time" regardless of whether it's local or national weather. My point was they aren't even showing national weather during long form programming or the commercials when those shows are on. That would technically be where the false advertising comes into play if they aren't even providing viewers with that.

I never said anything about it's false advertising because they aren't providing local information for those who have Satellite or those who have HD and no IS2 so I'm not sure where that's coming from. In fact, my statement was strictly talking about viewers who have HD, but no IS2. It had nothing to do with Satellite viewers because I have no idea what those viewers are seeing anyway (unless I saw an image or video).

As I said, there are technological limitations that can't be overcome easily.  Do you think, because of those limitations, TWC never should have advertised "weather all the time" in the first place?  As I already said, from the first day TWC was designed for cable TV, not for satellite. It airs on satellite to gain more of an audience, but the local forecast segments just can't be configured for direct to home satellite television.

I really don't think you're understanding what I've been saying since the beginning. I NEVER said local forecasts should be shown/programmed on the HD LDL or Satellite LDL. I don't know why you keep reinventing an argument I never made in the first place. I don't have satellite, I have cable, but I also have an HD feed that's never had an IS2 and has always showed national weather. The point of both the original and last post I made was over the fact that we're not even getting national weather except only during live programming.

Also, there's no "technological limitations" to displaying national weather on a HD national LDL. They do it during live programming/commercials, they can certainly do it during non- live programming point, blank, and simple.

EDIT: That fact that I've explained my statement clearly three times already has gotten very repetitive, we're just going in circles so I'll leave as it is after this.

As has been pointed out previously, because of the current design of the transparent LDL during longform, there can be no national LDL at the same time, because then the local LDL would be put on top of the national LDL, making it mostly unreadable.  Obviously TWC would rather use the transparent LDL for those who have the HD intellistar and not cater to those who don't, instead of considering a non-transparent LDL during longform.

But zap2it has WCL at 10PM and 1AM EST every evening, and some live programming throughout the day Sunday starting December 8.

So, are you saying TWC can't show anything on Satellite?

Dish and Direct TV can use their own Stars to overlay their Stars' output over the national LDL, as in the past.  There's bound to some difficulty at first.

The whole system has had a few hiccups, but has otherwise been pretty successful for a flash-cut at 4:00 this morning, and with, apparently, rather little preparation time.  (The worst blooper I saw was at 5:00 this afternoon when the squeezeback didn't happen and the LDL/sidebar just got switched off after a few minutes.)

Just give it a little time.  Once things get ironed out, you might see some improvements.

I wonder if Dish/Direct even still have their stars, since they pretty much quit being used when the national LDL was introduced, plus I'm not sure either provider ever had an IS2.

Okay, now that I'm home, I can say that the national feed doesn't look too bad either.

And Martin, you might want to tell the folks at TWC that the DirecTV's IntelliStar (and probably DISH's IntelliStar as well) are displaying the IS-generated clock on the LDL, when I don't think they're supposed to be. The one for DirecTV is stuck on pacific time and I'm sure the one on DISH is stuck on mountain time, and it's being overlayed atop the national clock that cycles through the timezones properly.

There's nothing wrong with the clock on DISH
Is it cycling through the timezones properly or is it stuck on mountain time?
It never was stuck and I've been watching since WCL!
Hmm that's weird. I'd imagine that the DISH STAR would be doing the same thing as the DirecTV STAR. Wonder why DirecTV managed to sneak in the update then.
I concur, didn't see any issues on DISH with the clock.  Possibly either the DirecTV STAR only has this issue and needs to be rebooted, or DISH may not even be running a star and it's just the raw national feed.

I also have a fear weather all the time may not last, such as when the LDL stopped being shown all the time during longform previously.

Also looks like the weekend of November 9-10 has all longform scheduled from 2 to 10 pm ET both days.

Sad to say, I would not be at all surprised if "weather all the time", will be seen by TWC as justification to increase the amount of long form programming, if anything.  If the above schedules are right, this may be exactly what is happening.

On the other hand, maybe the above schedule is only Monday night, no studio programming to allow them to make the final changes in the evening and overnight before Tuesday morning.

The only thing that usually changes is the track and intensity.

I don't mean to come off mean, but you say this like it's no big deal.  Possible changes in the track and intensity are the main reason to not put a lot of trust in a model this far out, not to mention the NHC day 5 path as mentioned by Patrick many times and proven by Emily.  But I do agree it is something interesting to look at, but as a meteorology teacher of mine who worked at the NWS said in class once, "One thing we know for sure, this will not happen
exactly how it's forecast" (referring to a model chart several days out).

Here is a perfect example on why this storm is so hard to forecast based on models right now, try to give me an intensity forecast based on this.

Anyone see the turbo tax commercial with Jim Cantore? He should be a movie actor.

Except I thought better of him then to actually do a commerical where he has to say "category 5 blizzard."

I have an issue with this schedule... There seems to be a shift issue in the program they used t obuild this schedule. First Outlook doesn't air on Sundays. I'm also noticing weather classroom and sunrise weather on Friday, which should be Sunday. I think that was done in error. Also, it seems the image has changed since you posted this, as the image does not match what you posted:

Keep in mind that at the bottom of the columns, it is for early the next morning.  For example the First Outlook at the bottom of the 'Sunday' column is actually early morning Monday.  The fact that the times on this schedule don't start at midnight make it confusing.

Statements from the NHC will say "The government of Mexico(or whatever the country is) has issued a tropical storm warning" if it is for areas outside the US.
