It seems TWC brought back some of the nostalgic music on their latest playlist.

Yet during Winter Storm "Juno™" coverage, I haven't heard any of those tunes, just the same old regular production tunes.  :wall:

I believe that's not real, just someone putting their own music over the video.

Looks like there's another "new" weather.com coming:

New Orleans Cox IS2 is also lacking text on the 36 hour forecast.

Check that - was lacking text - it's there now.

Ads are back on the IS.

Not sure how to scale down the images, so I removed them and left the links.

TWC IntelliSTAR with updated graphics- Astoria, OR- Oct. 21, 2014- 8:18AM PDT

I'm not all too impressed with the updated graphics.   Also, the hashtag screen is missing on my end (just cuts to the satellite LF).

Have to agree with Tavores on the hashtag screen: it is useless. IMO TWC could have put something else in the time frame, like the Local Weather ID number or even increase the timing on the 7-day forecast. But for a useless hashtag screen? Terrible!  :hammer:

Yours is kinda borked - it shouldn't have the what was the original opening screen, it should go straight to the new one. That's probably why you don't have the hashtag screen - which doesn't add much anyway.

I notice that the current hurricane coverage is using the reverse colored TWC logo that was featured in that WCL from the future show.

  • There will be a push to make TWC more interactive, eventually completely removing the utilization of Chroma walls and using more walls monitors ad plasma's, as seen in the recent Severe coverage by using the large AMHQ video wall for the MAX weather graphics.

The only problem I have with that is the large video wall would work better as one screen, not a group of smaller screens. I find the lines distracting - and sometimes you can see how one screen isn't quite calibrated with the next, leading to some color variations.

But this is nit-picking, I imagine many viewers don't even notice.

Any more news on the relaunch?

Not that I can say publicly, but stay tuned.  Relaunch is a strong word.
I thought we were using that word last week when we were discussing this last week in the LF thread. I'm wondering more about the timeframe. Still middle of Oct?

Pretty sure the original mention was always along of the lines of a refresh - i.e. an update of what we have now, now the top to bottom change that brought the current graphics.

I think some of it is already in place - backgrounds are different during when doing a two-shot (instead of solid, they are moving), the occasional map is not the plain one, L3 font was stretched out (and doesn't look all that great, IMO).

Latest ratings news... it's still not good.

You know, the other day I thought to myself "Guess they started using the rest of the set during the day because no one's seen it yet."

Didn't realize how true that was.

Also noticed the latest AMHQ commercials use very little Champion.

While it's nice to have full screen TWC for the first time in forever, it looks quite bad on HD because the long-form local info is right on top on the WCL logo and the L3s.

SD doesn't have that issue, obviously.

Back to long-form at 1amE/12amC (at least in New Orleans).

So a logo tweak is soon, huh? Speaking of tweaks, noticed that WCL is no longer using a "plain" background when doing a full screen two-headed shot.

This I have a problem with. They decorate the LF for this :censored:, but not Patriot Day on September 11th?! :furious:

Considering they seem to do "fun" holidays on the LOT8s these days, I'd say 9/11 is anything but.

If you think this is NBC making this move, you're looking at the wrong names.

This is what Blackstone and Bain Capital and investment firms do - buy something, cut the costs, then sell it for (hopfully) profit.  The three bought TWC for $3.5 billion, they'll at least make their money back.

If anything, I imagine NBC/Comcast would be very interested to keeping their ownership share if the other entities decide to part ways.

Since I remember seeing a bunch of iHeartRadio promos recently on TWC, I wonder if perhaps the new traffic vendor is Total Traffic. Both are products of Clear Channel, and perhaps the two sides worked out a trade deal - you get our data. we get some ad time.
