Local Forecast / Re: TWC Local Forecast Revamp?

At this point, I imagine it's more likely they drop the full-screen LOT8s than refresh them.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Studio 9 upgrades

I was wondering when they would finally change it. Guess some of the 2013 equipment is really aging to the point it needs to be replaced.

Not only that, any replacements are likely going to give them even better performance at a cheaper cost.

The full hour has been uploaded to YouTube. A pretty decent recreation effort for something airing at 4am in the morning.

Guess it's technically still Weather All The Time as the LDL stays on during the commerical breaks, and it's not stupidly labeled LOT8.

Glad they ditched the L Bar, it became pretty worthless in recent years.

New graphics look pretty good, in my opinion. Fullscreen LOT8 bit of a letdown - exactly the same except for the new font used.

Perhaps the software that powered the ticker is on the fritz. Another possibility - the ticker was removed to make LOT8s ad crawls stand out more.

I always thought the ticker was kind of useless, but the lack of it really stands out in the current look. Maybe throw some current national conditions in that spot or something.

6
All this did was cut back to two fullscreen LOT8s an hour during live. Same info on the bottom of the screen, sidebar cues up the local radar/almanac. Advertiser scroll covers up the news ticker.

Another look. I think trimming mine after uploading to YouTube made it a little choppy, this video gives a better idea on the transitions and such.

Local Now has gotten a refresh.
- New announcer, Cantore still used during weather segment
- New graphics
- Traffic now called Travel, includes voiced report by Total Traffic
- Local News/Sports split into two different segments
- No more LDL, now full screen

Looks like they are continuing to figure out how they using their resources. Warren and Delgado's shift was structured just like their original shift with the same guests, etc.

Honestly, this could be part of the eventual move back to more weather coverage, especially into the night. If they can make it work with one OCM and a locked camera shot (which probably means no cameraman), a skeleton crew could do overnights.

Anyone noticed that so far today on Weather Center Live, it's been just one OCM and a locked camera shot?

Considering this:

The Weather Channel is not part of the deal, but will license weather forecast data and analytics from IBM under a long-term contract.

I imagine weather.com will still be promoted on the air.

My question is - wasn't digital bringing in a substantial amount of money for The Weather Company? And now with this sale, does that go away? And if that's the case, is the Weather Channel going to use TV dollars to pay for everything?

I imagine a lot of expense is going out with this sale, so what's left on the TV side will be small - and possibily, able to spread the money around further.

It also says that Sam will only have the once a week show. So we really don't know yet what TWC is planning for prime time. I was hoping for more WCL or whatever but now I'm starting to wonder!

We know what they're doing in primetime, at least with Champion: a once a week show out of New York City (hey, didn't they just say it cost a lot of money to use NYC? Either once a week isn't nearly as expensive or perhaps it was just PR nonsense) where he'll do interviews...or something, it wasn't really clear. I thought they were going to use his expertise to help launch Local Now? Maybe that's what Anaridis will be doing as part of her new contract.

Also, TWC was pretty quick to correct initial reports that AMHQ was cancelled - the name is staying, even if the host they brought in to front it is not. So there was never going to be more Weather Center Live in the morning, except for replacing WUWA.

15
FTVLive.com reports AMHQ without Sam Champion will be fronted by Jim Cantore and Stephanie Abrams, with a 3rd anchor TBD - apparently NOT Jen Delgado.

The report goes on to say that Nick Walker may be brought back full-time and Anaridis Rodriguez's contract was re-upped.
