Traffic Pulse: Like it or hate it?
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:40:15 PM »
What's your feeling of Traffic Pulse being on the Intellistar?

My opinion on it is that there is really no need for it to be on the Intellistar, because Traffic.com is a highly visited site as far as i know and i don't think we need to see the traffic for a Metro Area that really doesn't affect a viewer's Daily travels. New Bedford-Fall River for example & takes away from the Weather graphic's that should show like Daypart/Schoolday/Today's Metro Forecast/Tonight's Metro Forecast/Regional Forecast.

both are 50 mins from Boston and they get Providence's Traffic which is 35/45 mins away?

there's no point of having Traffic Pulse

My feelings are mixed about the traffic products. I find them useful now that I drive, but it does eliminate the showing of some weather-related products, such as the regional forecast, and the CC screen on the :08/:38 flavor.

My feelings for them are mixed as well. I never check traffic by requset, so that's when it can be handy.

However, IMO, more slides like SDF, OU, AQ, and Daypart Forecast are more relevant to TWC than traffic.

I am also mixed, but I am moreso in favor of it than I am against it. For the longest of times, I was obsessed with it, and seemed to know more about it than even several users with it do. It is a convenience, that's for sure. Only thing though is the currency of the information. The traffic does take away time for other products to display, but TWC does not know how to put together flavors. I do believe people can see more of the regional maps if TWC were to realize you can't display every product on every LF.

Here's an idea of mine regarding traffic Intellistars:
:08- Front page CC (which is inexcusable to leave out on any LF)>8 city> sat/rad>almanac>air quality>daypart>2 metro forecast maps> regional forecast> 48 Hour Forecast>The Week Ahead>Traffic Overview>Incidents/Construction>Traffic Flow

:18- Front page CC>Regional CC>sat/rad>Almanac>air quality>daypart>metro forecast> 2 regional forecast maps>36 Hour Forecast>The Week Ahead>Traffic Overview

:28- Front page CC>Metro CC>sat/rad>Almanac>Air Quality>Getaway>Daypart>2 metro forecast maps>Regional Forecast>48 Hour Forecast>The Week Ahead>Traffic Overview>Incidents/Construction>Traffic Flow

:38-Front page CC>8 city> sat/rad>almanac>air quality>daypart>2 metro forecast maps> regional forecast> 48 Hour Forecast>The Week Ahead>Traffic Overview>Incidents/Construction>Traffic Flow

:48-Front page CC>Regional CC>sat/rad>Almanac>air quality>daypart>metro forecast> 2 regional forecast maps>36 Hour Forecast>The Week Ahead>Traffic Overview

:58-Front page CC>Metro CC>sat/rad>Almanac>Air Quality>Getaway>Daypart>2 metro forecast maps>Regional Forecast>48 Hour Forecast>The Week Ahead>Traffic Overview>Incidents/Construction>Traffic Flow

Notice how I took out the radar altogether. The radar takes up valuable time, and this time could be used to show the front page. The sat/rad does a fine job showing that there is no precipitation in the vicinity, and it would make the LF flow much more smoothly. Also, these flavors are assuming the absence of the weather bulletin screen and the local radar.

Come on The Weather Channel, it's not rocket science! It's not that hard to put together decent flavors that work.

I can imagine, I've been stuck on several occasions while I drove through Newport News and Hampton Roads. Stop and go til I got close to our exit. :P

I can totally understand for your area but Fall River/New Bedford is Not Applicable to Providence Area Traffic.

Very useful for big cities with lots of interstates, like Pittsburgh, especially during rush hour.

Mixed for me cuz in teterboro and the NYC area traffic is horrible but then again most ppl rely on news 12 or other local channels rather than twc for traffic info

I live in Newport News, and traffic pulse is indeed a necessity for me as well as Martin in Norfolk.

We really need a Tides segment here. Fishing is a popular activity on the Delaware River, and there is tidal information available there.
