My crazy encounter with PA Severe Weather...
« on: April 25, 2010, 03:59:51 AM »
Glad to be back on the boards after the transfer...a lot of schoolwork had to be done, and now it's 4 AM and I'm still awake, heh  :P Anyways, for those of you who haven't seen it already on my YouTube page, I had an encounter about a week ago with a shelf cloud moving into State College, PA. I had my Kodak digital camera rolling, and you can hear me talking about how terrible the storm is on the video.
Severe Thunderstorm in State College, Pennsylvania - April 16, 2010

The true identity of this storm from April 16th of 2010 is a shelf cloud and not anything else I say. I just kept rambling on like an idiot  :dunno: But I hope you like it.

The second storm that hit me around lunchtime yesterday was somewhat similar to this one.

We had another similar storm come through here today...warning and all, although much cooler boundary layer made this more of an elevated convection event. We actually had a tornado warning just to our south, but no reports of wind damage amazingly  :) Strangely, we weren't added to the Severe Thunderstorm Watch to our south until the local WFO (down the street, literally) agreed with SPC to extend it to the NY/PA border with all their counties.

Continuing the thread for another couple of videos that I took, which are arguably better than the prior videos. I moved to another apartment in State College, and the first night I spent, we had thunderstorms. Clear air behind the front allowed me to see a very well-developed thunderhead, lit from behind me and shining up in the heavens by the setting sun. Two parts:

Part I: (lightning visible):
Severe Thunderstorm in State College, PA, May 15, 2010 (Part 1 of 2)

Part II (better cut, more closeups, less shaking):
Severe Thunderstorm in State College, PA, May 15, 2010 (Part 2 of 2)

Enjoy and share!

Just wondering but it has nothing to do with this topic but why do you have two accounts? This and the Steve-O account?

Thanks, guys, for the compliments. We're in proximity to a Severe Thunderstorm Watch right now, and rumor has it a lot of the thunderstorms around here get good, dry air around them.

I'm not Jevic Steve BTW...  although I think many, many moons ago, I made one post with an old username (to which I don't know the password.)
