Old Radar Maps Found
« on: December 14, 2009, 05:58:58 PM »
After a long time browsing weather.com, I found the old radar maps. They seem to be very hidden and the only way to access them is by clicking a tiny link called "Classic Local Maps". And if i'm not mistaken Brian this area map is almost the exact map that your weatherscan local used: http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/map/USPA1801?mapregion=us_phl_ultraradar_plus_usen&showanimation=yes&bypassredirect=true

I don't know if these maps can be implemented into the emulator or not but just thought I'd bring it up just in case.

Well if you mean the radar maps that were used in the emulator before, than no. These maps are even more like the original IMO. See, if you compare these two maps they are almost exactly the same.

There was some reason he choose not to use those. It may have been its just not customizable enough for use with the emulator. Ill pass it along

i know the classic maps on TWC are more like the original maps used on weatherscan, however they arent easily customizable for your area. the current maps used with the emulator (satellite and radar) simply rely on your local latitude & longitude which i find more flexible than working with a predefined cut of a region and selecting a space from within that area. Chazz and I are actually going to work on an idea that will use the traditional basemap that the XL uses with floating radar data and see if we can come up with something more realistic. i will have to figure out how i will do that though. its an idea thats in the works!

Also, you should look into implementing an option that lets us zoom in and out the radar maps. My WSL's radar used to show the entire state of PA up until 2006.
