Cable will be just as much trouble. And let's not forget the cost factor. More than double what he's paying now.
Yeah. But, I remember we hardly EVER had problems with cable. But with DSL, we've always had some sort of problem. <_<

That's pretty unusual. I've had DSL for 2 years, and then I had it for three more years in the late 90's and early 00's and have never had a problem, except when a modem went up (which happens in any type of internet service).

Well, all ISPs have different quality and reliability.

You know what's weird? Every time I've switched modems (the first time is when I switched from wired to wireless connectivity, the second was today), my IP address has NEVER changed. It must be assigned to our phone line or something.

Also, it looks like my connection is going to stay on now. Let's hope it stays that way! B)

Yeah you have a Static IP (as do most DSL customers-hey Gil, there's a downfall to cable!).

And no Gil, its the same for the most part. The technology and equipment is the same no matter which company you  have.

Yeah, but other factors can reduce the quality of the service, such as wiring, location, etc.

You CAN get static IPs with cable. I like dynamic because if i get banned, just change my IP, and im no longer banned :D

What kind of HP did you order?  My HP came preloaded with Vista (and all the other crap).   Has a 100 gig hard drive, and 30 is used up.  I don't feel like reformatting the whole thing.  Frankly, if it isn't broken, I'm not going to fix it.

Almost the exact same situation here. Got a 120 GB HDD, 10 GB of it is a recovery partition, and with all the crapware they loaded, I had 77 GB free of a total 120 GB drive.
