Raleigh weather
« on: June 08, 2008, 03:30:04 PM »
The Triangle region of North Carolina is expected to continue to bake under this brutal heat wave through at least
Thursday, but at least the triple digit heat will loosen its grip by Tuesday.  A new record high temperature was set
at Raleigh-Durham International Airport with the mercury reaching an even 100° at 3:06 PM yesterday afternoon,
eclipsing the old June 7th mark of only 84° set back in 1947.

Unseasonably very hot conditions will continue tomorrow before isolated thunderstorms may develop
on Tuesday with peak readings by then to be in the upper 90s. In the meantime, the National Weather Service
Forecast Office in Raleigh had provided us with an interesting statistic regarding this morning's low temperature.

Record high minimum temperature tied at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport...

The low temperature this morning at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport was 73°. Unless the temperature
falls below 73° at some point during the rest of the day, this will tie the previous record for the warmest low
on June 8th, which is 73° set in 2007.

Here are the latest National Weather Service statements for the Raleigh metropolitan area.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT by the National Weather Service in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 8, 2008

A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect until 8:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

High temperatures today will reach triple digits over most of the area.
These high temperatures combined with the humidity will produce heat indices around 105°.

The danger from prolonged exposure to such hot conditions is cumulative. This means the chance of
dehydration and other heat related illnesses increases as the heat wave continues. Drink plenty of fluids,
stay in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine and check up on relatives and neighbors.

AN AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect until 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental and Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the Triangle area, in effect from 6:00 AM this morning to 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time this evening.

A Code Orange air quality alert for ozone has been issued for the Triangle area. Ground level ozone concentrations
within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. For additional information,
please visit the North Carolina Division of Air Quality web site at http://daq.state.nc.us/airaware/forecast
